No bombshell { om the fortress of Sebastopol ever cre” atec greater consternation than did my letter of Wednes- day last to the Pierce and Buchanan allied forces. They had thought their game was not understood; that by dividing off, some pretending to be for Pierce, while others loudly shouted for Buchanan, and seeming to unite only to Kill Dallas, they would not be suspected. Our Post- master here is the right hand man aud political agent of Postmaster General Campbell, who of ceurse tavord the re-lection of Dir. He states thathe was in the seme car with Dr. Bullard, in the forward ond of which by the crushing in of the roof under another car, four- teen persons were instantly killed. A gentleman wio the scene of the éixnster on Friday, states that the wreck of cars was astonishing, and con only uccount for its extent from the force with which the train was moving. ‘There were eleven cars in the train, ten baving left the city and another nddet at Hermann. The rear car was left, with tts rear truck, on the track, but the rails under it partially displaced. The front track was resting over the rails, but the rails were drawn off the embankment to the lett, and the car was only retained in an upright position by the coup- ling which held it up to the end of the xecone car from the rear, which was turned on ite sive, and resting at an angle of forty-five degrees (top down) on the bank, The third car from the rear is #lso on its side, at forty-five degrees, top down, Tn these cars, it ts believed, no mor- tal injuries were received. e fourth car had reached the abutment with its front truck and turned completely bottom up. It was principally cecupled by the guards, but we belleve no one in it was killed. The backs of the seats remained suspended in the car, the body of which did not seem to be much injured. ‘The fifth car hung by its rear end on the left corner of the abutment, its front pitched forward and to the right, and inclining angie of about 40 degrees, Many were wounded in thts car—but none, we think, killed. ‘The srxth ear bad droped off the abutment to the left, with its front t:uck coming down on the next ear ta ad: vance. Theforward part of this car was much broken up, and had the car last spoken of falien from the abut- ment, many lives would have beon lost in it. ‘The seventh car (from be rear) was inclined to the left. and the tront half of it mashed in by the sixth car, which had followed it in the traio. and fell on it from th» abutment. Fourteen killed on this car at least—nat none, we believe, seriously wounded. Mr. Adolphus Meier bad a remarkable escape; he was sitting with Mr. Caze and Mr. Dubois. Mr. Dayton, Dr. Bullard and Mr. Abeles we have heard famed as ainong thore killed in this ear. ‘The cighth car was thrown between the abutment and the pier at right angles to the track, and broken up so entirely that the diflerent parts could not bo recognized. ‘There were several of the inmates killed; but the es. capes, uncer the circumstances, were wonderful. ‘The vinth and tenth cars were pitched off to the right, ard wore much broken, but no others fell on them, 60 that the mortality was not so great asia those last oe (bag: ) settled off to tho right, but ‘Ube eleven: age car) settled of 0 , but alighted on ita bottom, and was not us touch broken as might have been expected. Police Intelligence. BREAGH OF TRUST. Miva Williams and Peter Van Blarcom’ were brought before Justice Welsh ‘at the Lower police court, charged jointly with grand larceny, on the complaint of Alfred W. Lockwood, of French’s Hotel. Mr. L. states in his affidavit that some weeks ago he furnished rooms at the houre No. 223 Broome street, and there lived with Eliza Willinma, (one of the accused,) as man and wile. That one day, on coming home from business, he was some- what astonished to find that Fliza bad decamped, taking with her all the household property, consisting of chatra, bureans, carpets and dtber articles necessary for a house- keeper. | He maic some inquiries in relation to the mat- ter and traced the runaway to a honse in West Broad- way, where she stopped tor some time and then left for some more congenial location.
