Harnissura, Jan. 5, 1855. ‘The Governor's message has been sent in to the Legis- lature. It shows the aggregate receipts of the State for the year to have been $6,666,060; expenditures $5,425,000, leaving a balance in the treasury of $1,220,000, The receipts of the public works show an excess over penses of $736,000, The statistics show'an ‘expenditure during his term of office, for the rent of works, of oyer $3,000,000; yet the funded ebt has been reduced a quar- ter of s million. Avousra (Me.), Jan. 5, 1855, ‘The Legislature of this State to-day elected Anson P. Morrill for Governor. In the House the vote stood as feHows:—Morrill, 106; Reed, 116, In the Senate Mr. Morrill received the unanimous vote, thirty in all. The fmanguration of Mr. Morrill will take place to-morrow. —_ From Boston. ANTI-SLAVERY PETITION—ELECTION OF A STATE SE- NATOR—MARINE DISASTERS. Boston, Jan. 5, 1855, An anti-slavery petition has been drawn up, ad- @ressed to the Massachussetts Senate and House, urging the passage of a law, ‘‘Thatany person who engages jm arresting, holding or returning fugitive slave, either as United States Judge, Commissioner, Marshal, Deputy Marshal, or in any other capacity whatsoever, or even as a private citizen, shall be for ever incapable ef acting asa juror in any court of this State, or of helding any offise of trust, honor or emolument, whe- ther such office be a State, county, city or town office, wnless relieved from such disgrace by a pardon; and alse to punish by fine and imprisonment any claimant fan alleged slave, or any aider or abettor-of such @laimant, who shall attempt to remove such alleged Slave from this State, without his first having a jury trial on the question of his slavery or freedom.”” A convention of both houses elected to-day, Ivory H. Accident to the Victoria Bridge over the St. Lawrence. Bostow, Jan. 5, 1855. ‘The woodwork of the Victoria Bridge, over the St. Law- pence river, was carried away by the ice, but no injury whatever was done to the stone abutment, or the stone piers, which remain firm as the solid rock, and prove the security and stability of the structure. The newspaper weperts of damage to the permanent structure are en- teely unfounded, Destruction of a Church by Fire. Provipence, Jan. 5, 1955. ‘The Roger Williams’ Church, on Burgess street, was @entroyed by fire this morning, at 2 o’clock. The church ‘was valued at $19,000, and had been recently improved. Be was insured for $5,000 on the building, and $1,000 on ‘the organ. Railroad Accident.
