Our Washington Correspondence, Wasuineron, Jan. 17, 1852. Kossuth and the Whig Party—snterview between Webster and the Magyar, a! Seward’s Howse— The Avstrian and Russian Ministers. We mentioned, the other day, that 2 coolness had sprung up between Seward and Scott. This is owing to the great Magyar, who is naturally not fond of military celebrities; and there appears to be something of & similar feeling on the part of the old General towards Kossuth. Of all tho whigs, Sewaid and Webster have entered most cordially into that sympathy, though they do not exactly endorse the whole of the intervention doctrine. Webster has tried hard to draw after him the whole cabinet, but the attempt has failed—Mr, Fillmore, and most, if not all, the Secretaries, being opposed to go beyond mere civilities. It is eaid Mr. Web- ster promised the President not to go to the Con- | gressional dinner, but changed his mind suddenly, sheetin, hed b with a fair demand. Both partics are now anxious to smooth it over; butit is not certain that they will succeed, because the democrats will not miss the opportunity to fan the flame. Kossuth and the Secretary of State, had a seceret conference of an hour and a half, on | Sunday evening, | the day before Kossuth left) at Gov. Seward’s, in Washington, near the Post Office. Several free soilers, one of thom formerly not a very cordial friend of Mr. Webster, in his own State, and his successor in the Senate, were in Mr. Seward’s parlors, talking socially with Kos- suth, when the imposing form of tho Secretary of ASHES— State made its solemn appearance ; and after a | Bot per 1 Ibo. £00 short general conversation, Kossuth and Woba% retired to Governor Seward’s library. Nearly two hours later they returned, and it was observed thas the Ma, mood. hat passed between them ig not knowa: Mr. Seward was not present himself. The adminietration do not wish to bring uestion of Mr. Congress, because, it is said, there are oflicial pro- Mises on record, mado by the Secretary of State, to members of the diplomatic corps, to make no speech, or a very different one. Although the Aus- trian minister did not go to the Now Years Day re- ception, et the White House, and, it is known has declined the invitation to tho Presilent’s plomatic dinner, which is to take place ina few days, Mr. Fillmore hag had sevoral private in- terviews with the Chevalier Hnlsemann, for the tho purpose of avoiding the inconveniences waich may | result from Mr, Webster's speech. If the democrats elect their candidate, they will muster 42 votes on joint Dailot, ageinst 36 whigs and 7 free eoilers.
