Weowespay, August 13—6 P.M. ‘There were large rales of all the fancy stocks, to-day, @ the first board, and holders were compelled to submit t> another decline. Erie Convertible Bonds fell off 1 per cent; Delaware and Hudson 1; Canton Company 1; Morris Canal >;; New Jersey Mining Company }4; Erie Railroad 134: Harlem 13¢ ; Norwich and Worcester 14; Reading Railroad 1. Erie Railroad was particularly active, to-day, and we see no way of preventing a panic 800m, again, among the buils. Prices are lower now than they were a few weeks since, and there is less disposition ‘o buy than we have noticed before for some months Outside operators have completely deserted the market, and holders disposed to convey, are frequently compelled to sell at any sacrifice. Money is scarce; but the demand for money is not the whole cause of price, for stocks depreciating. It is partially the result of a want of confidence in the future; and capitalists and others prefer placing their availuble means on deposit- where they can be commanded at any moment, to putting them in the best security on the market. It is impossi- bile to tell what the future has in store for us. All anti- cipstions and calculations relative to the probable course of financial affairs, are useless, The shipments of specie bave been limited, lately, in consequence of the increased ‘value of money at home. The payment of debts due abroad has only been postponed, and any let-up in the money market would let loose millions of specie for ex- portation. It must go forward sooner or later, and it is the fear of this that keeps everything 80 much depressed. ‘The steamship Niagara, for Liverpool, carried out $415,000 jf specie, of which about one-half was American gold. ‘The steamship Prometheus, from San Juan de Nicara- gus, brought about $500,000 in gold dust; so that the export, in this case, nearly equalsthe import. The news from Europe by the Africa, is not favorab! mot ee: of a nature calculated to give much hope to those who ‘may be at this moment much embarrassed in their af- faize. The only safe way is to make everything as snug ‘as possible, and patiently wait the coming of the blast. ‘The receipts at the office of the Assistant Treasurer of this port, to-day, amounted to $125,175 9; payments, $53,487 12; balance, $3,035,376 96. ‘The demand for foreign exchange for remittance by the steamer, to-day, was quite limited. We have no alterations to make in our last quotations. ‘The business of the Fishkill, Hartford and Providence Bailroad Compary shows a steady and handsome increace. For the month of July, the receipts were $12,624. Cor- Tesponding month lastfyear, $8012. Increase, $3,612—or forty per cent. The receipts for the months of Way, June, and July are about ten thousand dollars more than the reeeipts of the same months im 1860. An analysis of th- railway traffic returns of the United Kingdom for the last week of July, published by the Herapath's: Journal, shows the total receipts on 6,354 miler, to be £898,147, equal to £53 per mile per week. In the corresponding week of last year, the receipts were £76714 on 5,975 miles, or £46 Ss. per mile per woek ‘There is thes an increase of £61,433, or 22-20 per cent, in the gross recelpte; an increase in the mileage of 379 miles, or 632 per cent; and an increase of £6 15s. ia the mount received per mile per week. The Railway Times estimates the aggregate receipts since the Ist July, this year, at £923,590, averaging £147 18s. 1144. per mile. In 1860, for & sliilar period, ther reached £776,442 on the frame lines, giving an average of £132 8s, 7d. per mite. ‘This shows « difference in favor of the present year to the extent of £14 15s. 4)sd. permile, The compantes that have partaken most largely of this increase are the Tendon and Northwestern, Southeastern, Brigkton, Great Western, and Southwestern. ‘The two jeading railroad stocks operating in to a greater extent than any others, are the Ogdensburg and the Vermont and Massachusetts. The Boston Courier gives the annexed information in relation to each of these stocks:—The Ogdensburg corporation is au- thorized to issue 40,000 shares; of these, 30,000 were subscribed for, and 26,000 only have been issued, leaving in the possession of the corporation, 14,000 shares, which will not probably come into the market at prices mach, if any, below the par of $50 per ehare. The Central has 100,000 shares, all issued but 6,000, which were sold on credit in 1859, the payment for which has tured. The Vermont end Massachusetts has 29,000 phares issued, at $100, $70, and $50, the average par of which is about $80, amounting to $2,02000. At the present quotation of $28 they would cost the par- charere but $512,000. reyuiring but $45,720 net earnings to yield six per cont dividends. Last year ‘the insome paid expenres, interest, repaire, and left a surplas of $34,000, This year the income has increawd 22 per cent in the firet six months. The second six months constitute the largest and best half of the year, in point of revenue, which will be largely increased by its new tributary, the Vermont Valley road, which was not opened for travel until the last of June.
