Slavery in this Distreet—Mr. Pratt's Bill—Alarm- tng Increase of the Free Colored Population—More Excutement—African Line of Steamers necessary. Mr. Pratt called up his Compromise bill to-day, being the sixth of the Senate in the general adjust- ment—a bill for the punishment of kidaappers of slaves from this District, and to arrest the alarming imerease of free negroes, by a grant of power to the leoal authorities to prevent the incoming of free colored persons, aud tw order them out of the Dis- trict, on pain of fine ond imprisonment. The proceedings upon this bill will show you that egitation is vot over—that the question of the abolition of slavery here, is to be contiaued before the people.
