Some time since, the Secretary of the Trea- sury estimated, that at the close of the fiscal year, June 30, 1651, there would be a deficiency in the pub- le treasury, of from ten to fifteen millions of dollars. at that time, be no deficiency, but, on the ec: trary, arurplus. The enormous importations entered during the past eighteen months, have given the government a revenue from customs larger, by many millions of del- lars, than anticipated, and the apprehensions enter- tained by the Secretary of the Treasury, that « new loan would have to be contracted, have entirely dis- appeared. According to the most recent returns from the Treasury Department, the amount of government deposits in the different depositories, was $10,198,016 91. The receipts during the past two weeks, have been very large, the deposits at the present time, proba. bly amount to full twelve millions of dollars, and the interest on the public debt just paid The importa- tions during the remainder of this season, will, with- it doubt, be larger than in any previous year, the revenue from duties will, therefore. be pro- portionably greater than ever before. This will in- crease the resources of the Treasury beyond the esti- mates, and at the close of the fiscal year, 1851, there will be, without doubt, a handsome surplus. It is. perhaps, unfortanate for those who are deeply involved in epeculations, who have large amounts of stocks rious kinds of property, purchased at high prices, that the government can get along in its financial operations without resorting to a new loan, for our supply of securities, euch as are in proper credit abroad for remittance. has become so re- ARTED- aN EX EXVERIEXCED 00K: KEEPER TO charge ofa et of books tention fo the peneral business cf a tne familiar with t be ered ene would prefe: A Beara and refi rences, to ANTED—A SITUATION BY a washing and ironing ins priva aoe short distance ta the two days Tox! of city references 29 Prince street, socund flvor, front ANTED—A SITUATION BY A YOUNG WOMAN, the hevsework of & amall private family She would’ lng be willing to sasiat in plain se as no hectic ry.
