Tuvnsray, July OPM, ‘The stoek market opened more buoyant this morning, and all kinds of securities, good, bad and indifereat, advanced a fraction. We have seldom noticed, at this season of the year, so much firmness among holders of stocks generally, or so mueb steadiness In prices, At present, it certainly looks as though the usual summer decline would not be realized, but it by no means fol- lows thet any important ‘advance can be produced, even upon the opening of the fall business, Prices for most of the fancies rule very high—ten, fifteen and twenty per cent above what many of them are worth for speculative purposes; notwithstanding which, hold- | ers hypothecate them, and resort to all kinds of fiaaa- cial operations, to enable them to carry stocks through the dull season, There are at this moment but two or three recurities on the list,in which there is any margin for an improvement. Well secured railroad bonds, end bonds of several of the Western States, have | not advanced #0 rapidly or so largely as securities of | 1ee8 value and safety a* investments; and the attention | of capitalists must soon be turned to them, when they | | vill compare more favorably with government and | such State stocks as now command large premiums. | If California sends us between two and three millions of dollars by every semi-monthly packet, there ean be no | apprebension of any unfavorable change in the money market, but, on the contrary, a greater abundance in | the supply of capital, a better basis for eredit, and, as a natural consequence, an improvement in prices for ; every species of property. and possibly a speculative movement in some of our great staple products, most productive stock offering. at whatever the mar. | ket price interest, where security is undoubted, must be first absorbed, Seven per cent bonds, whether issued by State or railroad companies, must in a short time b entirely withdrawn from the market, and command a great preminm, Six per cent stocks, of govern- ment or incorporated companies, will in a few | years become much better investments then at present, compared with the rate of interest tha: | will probably rule at that time. A revolution is going on in financial affairs, which must ulti mately produce wonderful results. We shall pro bably never again have such high rates of interest ruling in our money markets as we have heretofore. Our commercial intercourse with Great Britain has now reached such a degree of intimacy, that the value | of money in the two countries must become more equalised, This, in connection with the supply of gold from California, will reduee our standard rates of inte- rest, and, by making money cheaper, increase the value of all our public and incorporated securities, and thus reduce the income from such investments. Those who purchase these securities at present prices, will therefore have am opportunity, before the lapse of many months, to realize large advances in the shape ef premium, or comparatively large incomes in the | high rate of interest received. The rate of interest | ruling in Great Britain ranges from two to three per | cent, and stocks drawing three and three and a halt per cent interest range from ninety per cent to par. The margin for @ rise in our six and seven por cent stocks, ro as to net three and four per cent. interest, is very great, but it will, without doubt, soon be covered. At the first board, U. 8. 6's, 1867, advanced \ per cent; Erie bonds, new, ; Erie R. R., 1¢; Farmers’ Loan, %; Harlem, ¥; Reading R. R., 4. Pennayl, vania 5’s declined 4¢ per cent. If tho interest is not called for, it will be added to the prin- cipal. ‘The Seaman's Bank for Savings will pay interest for six monthe, ending 30th June,on sll deposits, at the rate of six per cent per annum, on sums of $1,000 and under, and at five per eent per annum on sums over $1000, Hereafter, this bank will pay six per cent per annum en sums notexceeding $500. The interest will be placed to the credit of the depositors. ‘The Institution for the Savings of Merchants’ Clerks will pay « dividend, at the rete of six per cent per an- num. on sums not over $1,000, and five per cent per an- on sums overs $1,000, for six months, on the 16th instant. The New York Equitable Insurance Company will pay « dividend for half e year,at six per cent per annum, on and after Monday next, the 16th instant, at 58 Wali street. The Madison and Indianopolis Railroad Company have declared a semi-annual dividend of four per cent, payable on the 25th inst. ‘The Munn (Illinois) Land Company will pay a divi- dend of 15 dollars per share, to the stockholders, on the 11th instant (to-day) The annexed statement exhibits the number of fur- naces, in and out of blast, on the Ist of January and 14th of June, 1860:— Pie Inow Funsaces wx Soortanp. —— Jan.
