The Difficulty with France— More Developemente— We have at length the whole of the correspoa- dence published this mornin’ im the columns of the Intelligencer and also the Republic, disclosing the various matters between M. Poussin and Mr. Clayton. It very absurd and ridiculous quar- rel about a few dollars all through; even en the tace of the official correspondence, there is a good deal of room for the remarks made upon it by the French Secretary for Foreign Affiirs. The real cause of this fuss, however, has never yet beem disclosed to the public, or submitted to the action of unbiassed opinion. 1 will endeavor to supply this omission, in additioa to what I have already said. 7 Soon after the inavguration of General Taylor, it may be remembered that a grand entertam- ment was given to the foreign ministers resident in Washington. In getting up this entertainment with proper attention to etiquetie, several mem- bers of the cabinet were called into the councils of the White House. It was proposed, as usual,» that all the monisters, with their secretaries, in> cluding ther ladies, should be invited to that grand diplomatic fete, with the exception of the French ambassador. It appears that M. and Madame Poussin had previously both called on the President, the minister presenting his lady to the family of the Presi and everything passed off lacy-like. This was a preliminary step in so- cial diplomatic etiquette; but, for other reasons, it was proposed to give an invitation to M. Pouse sin without including Madame Pousam. A cons siderable debate took place in the cabinet on this point, and Mr. Clayton was of opinion that Mme. Poussin should not, and could not, be invited with the minister. The same rule was observed with regard to M. Marie end his lady. The rea- sons assigned for the exclusion of these ladies, were the position which, according to rumor, they had occupied in Paris—the one had been a go- verness, and the other a grisette; but I forbear to mention anything else. On M. Poursin receiving his note of invitation for the Presidential dinner at the White House, without including Madame Pougsin, he felt very indignant, but did not seem to know what eourse totake, He leamed thet Mr. Clayton was the 1 of city refcrende givon. Mr. Clayton has hops his temper better than M.
