Extral? ofa Letter from Barbados, April zo, 1759, ¢ By an exprefswhich arrived here a few days ago, in. twenty three days from Spithead, there is an ac- count of fixty odd fail of French veflels, moft of them ftore-fhips, having failed for St. Domingo, un- der convoy of feven {all of Duich Men of War, 3 of which chafed the exprefs : That the King of the two Sicilies having requefted of the Couit of En. gland, to have an Admiral to accompany him in pay- ing a vifit to the King of Spain, before his death, Admiral Bolcawen was accordingly gone with him : That on the death of his Spanifh Majefly, it was ex pefted war would be declared by Spain and Sardinia againft the French ; and a Dutch war was likewife much talked of : That the King of Pruflia had fhut up Count Daun in fuch a Manner, that he mull ei- ther fuerender, or fight his way through : T'hat Capt. The Day before he fai'ed a Sioop came down to St. Kitts from Guadaloupe, and confirms the Intelligence of our Forces having taken Pofiel on of Beemeau on that Ifland : That the Inhabitants were put to the utmoft Diftrefs for the want of Pro- vifions, all their Communications having been cut off; that the Negroes were continually running away off the Ifland in Canoes, &c. and that one in particular foundered with 18 or 20 fine flaves in her, who all perithed ; and another was taken with as many on board : That it was thought upwards of oo French Negroes were fent to Jamaica by our People, fince they firft landed ; and near as great a Number carri- ed off by the Privateers : That near 1400 of the Iflanders had jult come in and furrendered to Gene- ral Barrington ; who had allowed th~ Governor with the Remainder, only 4 Days to dcter o ine a Capitula- tion ; and the Day on whick Cao:. The Captain was foon af- ter taken up and had a decent Interment, By the fame Conveyance we are affured, that fleets from five to ten fail of French floops frequently go from Martinique to Euftatia, deep loaded with Sugar and full of Men and Guns; but that, upon any Top- fail Veflel heaving in fight and giving chafe, they fcamper immediately, each for himfelf : One of thefe Fleets Capt. The Harlequin floop privateer, of this place, has taken a floop loaded with fugar, &c. which fold for 1500 L. in the Weft Indies. Young, fay, That by the St. Chriftophers Gazette, and by fome of their particular Friends who came down in a few Hours frem Antigua, St. Kitts, &c. they read, ard were aflured, the Governor of Gradaloupe,and *hofe who held out with him, had, for a Certainty, at laft, furrendered as Prifoners of War to General Barring- ton, on the 28th or zgth of April lat : That feveral Tranfports were failed with the Prifoners toAntigua, &c. And that Capt.
