NEW.-YOREK, Ma 16. Captain Bonnell failed from Falmouth the 17th of March, and fays, That the Day after, he fell in with a Number of Tranfports, bound to Cork, under Con- voy of threo Men of War ; but that meeting with con- trary Winds, and very bad Weather, they were obliged, - as well as the Weft India and Lifbon Packets, to bear away for Falmouth, he, not without being in very emnent Danger, kept the Seas, but did not clear of Ireland for two Weeks after. ‘T'wo or three Days after Capt. Bonnell met with the above-mentioned Tranfports, he faw Twelve Sail of large Ships, which he imagined were Men of War. On Sunday the 13th of March, in the Afterncon, the Expedition Packet from Lifbon, was chafed into the Harbour of Falmouth,by a French Privateer of 2z Guns, which had lain off the Harbour ten Days. When fhe gave over the Chafe, they were within two Miles of each other, and about that Diflance from the Cattle, which was preparing to fire at her had fhe attacked the Packet. A Privateer Snow that lay in the Road, cailed the Cornwall, Capt. Dillon, lay ready to {lip her Cable, and go to the Packet’s Aflitance Numbers of the In- habitants having jumped on board for that Purpofe. Wednefday the Privateer Ship Hertford, commanded by Capt. Thomas Lewis, ately fitted out-from this Place, brought into our Flarbour a valuable French Prize, a Ship of about 240 Tons, which he took about three Weeks ago, to the Southward of Bermudas in Lat. 29: She was bound from Porto Prince in Hifpa- niola to Old France ; her Cargo is faid to confift of 400 Hogfheads of Sugar, anda confiderable Quantity of Indigo, Cotton-Wool, Hides, &c# valued at about 9000 /£ . Sterling. She fai’d out with 4 other Veflels bound alfo to France, which parted from her a Day or Two before fhe was taken : One of which is the Prize carried into Briftol as undermentioned : and anotherof them is faid to be the trading Sloop that was fiezed at Rhode Ifland as mentioned in our Jatt. Two other Veflels, they fay, fail’d the Day before them for Cape- Breton. The fame Day fail’d from this Harbour on aCruize, the Province Ship of War, King George, Capt. Benja- min Hallowell. We hear from Briftolin Rhode Ifland Government, that Capt. Mark Anthony De Wolfe in a Privateer Sloop of Fifty Tons, with Forty Hands, and fix Guns, belonging to Warren, fail'd from thence the z4th of April, and put into Newport, from whence fhe fail'd three Days after ; and on the 4th of this Inftant May to the Northward of Bermudas, took a French Snow of 150 Tons, with 18 Men, whe made but littleRefiftance, having but 2 Guns, and no one killed or wounded on either fide : The Privateer retarn’d with her Prize to Briftol the 15th, having finifhed this Cruize in 3 Weeks to an Hour.—The Cargo of the Snow confifts of 200 Hogfheads of Sugar, a Quantity of Coffee, Indigo, Elephants-Teeth, Logwood, &c. and was bound from St. Domingo for Old Franca. We have Advice from the Eaftward, that a Party of our People having lately come up with a Number of Indians near George's, fired on them, killed one, took fix Guns, and about an hundred weight of Bever. We hear from Providencs in Rhode-Ifland, that laft Friday Night was fent in thete a Prize Sloop of about 70 Tous, taken by the Privaiear Sloop Black Snake of faid Province, on the 13th of April laft, Capt. Tyler Commander, laden with Loswood, Hides, and a great Quantity of Indigo, &c. Capt. Sweeting who went out Commacgder of the above Privateer, (and who put in Capt. Tyler for this Cruze) tock a Snow, and in-Con. fort with a Privateer belonging to New Providence took a Ship, richly laden, and casried them both into New- providence.—Capt. T'yler was takenat the Commence- ment of the prefent War, and carried into one of the French Weft India Iflands, where he was clofe con- fined in Goal and very ill treated, ’till he got his Re- leafe by a Flag of Tiuce. We hear that Capt. M’'Carthy who was bound hi- ther in a Ship from the Bay of Hunduras, but was fome Time ago cafl away near the Bahama lflands, whofe Veflel and Cargo was loft, but the Men’s Livesfav'd, came in Mafter of the abave Prize. Yefterday Morning arrived here Capt McKnown, in 8 Days from Annapolis, and informs, that jult before he fai’d, a Man was carried offby two Frenchmen, (fuppos’d to be lurking Neutrals) but a litle Diftance from the Fort, as he was looking for Cattle ; a Party went out in Purfuit of them, dut retarn’d withouat Suac- cels. Extraét of a Letter from Halifax, dated May 7, 1756 —The Indians have carried off 4 Men, (one of them nam’d William Fillis) from the Head of theNorthWeit Arm, about three Quarters of a Mile from Town, where they were working at 4 Saw- Mill : It is thought they are carried to Louifbourgh, as we think the Enc- my want Intelligence very much at this Time. Par- ties have been out, but to no Purpofe.— Captain Jones who arrived here laft Friday in 12 Days from Halifax, informs us, That he failed from thence with Trap for New- London, Lineout for New- England, Stone for Newbury, and Chew for Virginia, with others in Company to the Number of 16 Sail of Equivalent in Bills of Credit, one Half (0 be paid at .Emr’ance..
