BYRD'S SHIP HAS TROUBLE IN GALE Rides Out Storm After Two Days and Half of Delay Duncdin, April 4 (®—Al- though a south-easterly galé, with a wind velocity of 70 miles an hour, had not abated, Rear Admiral Richard E. Byrd's antarctic expedi- tion ship, .the City of New York, radioed today that she was riding out the storm in the Pacific ocean, midway between here and Papeete, ‘Tahiti. The bark, with only a top sail and try cail up, had been hove to 1or nearly two and a half days. The steamer, Eleanor Bolling, Admiral Byrd's other expedition vessel, reported that she was mak- ing good timec against the heavy seas. Both =ships reported that those aboard were well. A stowaway was found on the Eleanor Bolling after | the vessel left Dunedin and will be put ashore at Papeete, where the two ships are to join company for the trip to Panama. : Admiral Byrd is to ‘leave New Zealand for Wellington April 24 on hoard the steamer Rangitiki. & At Panama he will board the City of New York for the final stage of the homeward journcy to New York city.
