! back the threat if it is not riddled ARMY TEAM OUT FOR ITS REVENGE "Hopes to Beat Nebraska and Uphold Eastern Football ' New York, Nov. 28 (UP)—The second mid-western threat to the Ppeace of mind of what started out; to be an unbeaten football eleven showed up on the plains of Welt Point today, when Nebraska's pon- erful football squad, 33 strong, ar- rived for a workout preliminary to! tomorrow's intersectional game with Biff Jones' Cadets, Having received one rude setback at the hands of Notre Dame the Cadets were in no mood to hold lightly these cornhuskers who have swept aside all opposition this sea- son aside from a scorecless tie with Pittsburgh last week. ‘Wants Revenge Despite the known power of the | invaders, however, the Army eleven | is ready to take revenge upon the mid-west for its defeat by the Irish a fortnight ago. That defeat spoiled what promised to be a great | season for the Cadets who are en-| gaged upon the hardest football | schedule ever undertaken by a serv- ice team, or a college onn for that | matter. The Nebraska squad is impressive as to size, with ten 200-pounders on | hand, but sheer power on the grid-| iron is not as dreaded by this year's | ‘West Point eleven as is a deceptive attack such as won for Notre Dame at Yankee Stadium. The one game lost by the Army this season was lost because the Irish stopped Christian Cagle. This fast, elusive ball carrier was the object of constant attention in the Notre Dame game, and lost some of the prestige he had won earlier in the fall. Tomorrow may find Cagle running wild once more aided by better interference and a better choice of plays, in which case the Cornhuskers are in for an unhappy afternoon in the new West Point Stadium. Bift Jones, in common with a! number of other coaches this sea- son, has developed what realy ! amounts to a one-man attack, hrs| other backs paving the way for the fleet, hard-hitting Cagle. It must be admitted that no pronounced suo- cess has crowned this method of at- tack. 'Yale insists upon it, whether the ball-carrier be Garvey or Butch Loud, and what Princeton did to the latter in Palmer Stadium still rankles in Eli breasts, Several mid- western elevens started out with supposedly great ball-carrying backs but it was noticeable that Yowa switched from Mayes McLain when the Cherokee chiet hegan to slow up under constant pounding, and Minnesota found that it had more effective backs than Bronk Nagurski to whom the pigskin might safely be entrusted, Ballliant Backs In Murrell, O'Keefe, Hutchizon and Allan, the Army has backs who can be counted upon to gain with the right kind of assistance, but it is certain that the Cadets' hope of victory lies in the dash of Cagle. Such was the system; therefore it is the system. Football strategem, paradoxically, varies little in late season games. The Corphuskers have a bone- erushing, plle-driving backfield star known as Blue Howell with whom they hope to crash through the West Point line tomorrow. That line has shown great resistance at times this season, and should turn by injuries as was the case in the game with Notre Dame. But the Army has more to stop than one plunging back of the old school, for Nebraska knows how to turn elusively to the air when the occasion warrants a passing attack, with Claire Bloan tossing the ball. Well Matched The elevens are well matched. There has been little opportunity, fortunately, for comparative scores. s0 it will be impossible to err In estimating the outcome on any such uncertain premise. It is doubtful if the Cornhuskers have beaten any better teams this season than those conquered by the Cadets. Nebraska was held to a scoreless tie by Pitt and just managed to nose out Syra- cuse, Army beat Vale, Harvard, and Southern Methodist when each of the "ams was at its best. The have no easy tima but they should win tomorrow.
