i REPORTS COSERAVE PREPARED T0 QUIT Dublin Predicts No Attempt to Form Government ' d London, June 'Y UP — Beveral London newspapers printed a re- port today that President Cosgrave ‘of the Irish Free State cabinet is- sued & statement late last night declaring he does not iIntend to form a government on the ground that his party will be in the min- ority in the dail eireann as a con- sequence of last week's elections. Mr. Cosgrave's attitude is said to be that, seeing the president is elected by a majority of the dail, and as his party is in the minority, he ‘and his colleagues will be un- able to form a government without usurping the rights and duties of the majority, which they have neither the power nor the wish to do. The London Times quotes a statement: of Mr. Cosgrave to the Dublin Aewspaper, Irish Indepen- dent, in which he explained this at- titude, but without a definite re- fusal to form a cabinet. The Times apparently is convinced, however, that he will eventually organize a government. The Westminster Gazette sug- gests that President Cosgrave's sup- posed refusal to form a government probably will resuit in the other pro-treaty sections of the new dail inivting him to resume office, and intimates that he is desirous of sueh an invitatioh. Final returns in the elections gave the government party 46 seats, exclusive of the speaker, and the flanna fail, republican wing led by Eamon De Valera, 44 seats. The labor party won 22 seats, indepen- dents 14, farmers 11, national league, sinn fein 6, and independent republican 1. Tom Johnson, laborite leader, while not in sympathy with the Cosgrave party, is said to have a greater dislike for the flanna fail. ‘The national league is definitely hostile to the governmental party. SPRINGFIELD SUSPECT MAY BE STRANGLER George A. Taylor, Barber, May Be the One Wanted for Salis- bury Killing. Springfield, Mass,, June 17 (A — Search for George A. Taylor, Exe- ter barber, who is wanted for ques- tioning in connection with the death of Miss Stella Kale, whose body was found on the beach at Salisbury a fortnight ago, led in a new direction last night when a man, answering the description given out by authorities, was being held here. The man gave his name as George H. Taylor and sald he was a barber, looking for work here. He had been in this city only a few days. Taylor, who was arrested here by Lieutenants John P. Fleming and Patrick J. Fenton, sald that he was born in Ausable Forks, N. Y, and that he was 40 years old. He divulged nothing more aside from this. He is being held here as a suspect pending the arrival of Sal- { isbury authorities early in the morning ‘for a more definite identi- fication. ELOPERS MARRIED Probablity is That Mann Act Charge Against New York Couple Will Be Dropped. 8an Francisco, June 17— With the love which caused them to elope from their New York homes sanctioned by the law, Mrs. Isabelle Keyes Burch and Captain Arnaldo Marson, her father-in-law, today Captain and Mrs, Marson were be- lieved by officials here to have little prospect of trouble in getting the Mann Act charges against them dropped. The elopers, whose arrest here last fall following their desertions of their respective mates in York and flight across the continent caused a nation wide sensation, were married here by a Justice of Peace yesterday. United States Com- missioner Krull said the usual pro- cedure would be for the couple to appear before him and ask that the Mann Act charges be dropped. Court attaches eonsidered his re- mark, “I hope the matter will soon be forgotten,” as indicative of what his course would be when the couple did come before him. How to Differentiate Between Judges Booth New Haven, June 17.—(—De- spite the many more or less brilliant suggestions which have from time to time been advanced for differ- entiating between Judges John R. Booth of Danbury and New Haven, in the allotment of Judges of the superior court for the coming year the two have been designated as: “Booth J. (of New Haven).” “Booth J. (of Danbury).” Among the helpful suggestions which had been advanced were John 1, and John 2, or John Rich- ard, and John Rufus, John Richard Booth of Danbury being suggested as John one because of the priority of his appointment. Judge Eooth J. (of New Haven) will start his active service on the Lench of the superior court at the opening of the fall criminal term of the New London county court in Norwich.
