T.—A definite abatement by New Haven, plan for the of smoke nuisance in this city, the ap- pointment of a 8moke inspector has been adopted by the smoke abate- ment commission of the Chamber of Commerce. At a meeting of the commission held Wedgesday the chairman, L. P. Breckenridge, was directed to consult with Mayor Gerald and if the general plan isap- proved by the mayor, to appoint an executive committee who will pro- coed to carry it out. The proposed smoke inspector ac- cording to the plan adopted would probably come under the city en- gineer, it being suggested that a present employe~in that department could be appointed to the task. The smoke inspector would co-operate with the Chamber's commission in an, effort to abate all unreasonable smoke in the city In addition a technical advisory cominittee would be appointed to give suggestions and general assis- tance to the smoke inspector as he may desire. In the opinion of the smoke abate- ment commission of the Chamber, present conditions are not so bad but it is feared that they may be- come worse unless steps are taken to get the situation in hand.
