Truly I'll be myself again,” lisped 18-year- old Clara Beauclaire, Brockton's strange dual personality girl, to her mother. In less than 15 minutes she was being escorted from the house of which she seems to be in deadly fear to an apartment which has been rented temporarily at 138 Pleasant street. Like a flash she changed from the babbling tot of six years to the light-hearted maid, her own self, as she was led upstairs. Since that time, Miss Beauclaire, whose strange case ‘has baffled a dozen medical men of this section, has failed to show any trace of that other nature which has persistently trans- formed her into & child, without warning, for the past two months. She will be allowed to re- main in her present quarters while an exhaustive test is made to deter- mine.the cause of her weird trans- formation. The childish request was made by the girl Saturday night after she had been in the juvenile state for 24 hours. She begged to be taken to the home of a friend not far away to join a party of friends at whist. Hardly had she entered the room be- fore the transformation came. She played with skill and enthusiasm. Late in the evening she re-entered her home and once more lapsed into the childish state. Then| she was taken to her new quarters where, true to her promise, she became her nor- mal self. Victim Of Hallucinations All night long she was unable to close her eyes. This morning, how- ever, she fell into a sound sleep at 6 o'clock and awoke three hours later, dressed and went to church. Since she has been the care free girl and pride of the family of six sisters and three brothers. Several ‘reasons have beeh advanc- ed for her strange condition, hypno- tism, wrecked nerves and even »sy- copathia, but none agree. When transformed into a child she seems to sense a haunting fear of the upper part of the house, telling of the man that hung himself in the attic. Once when persunaded to visit the spot she hecame almost a maniac, screaming in abject terror, making It necessary to carry her from the place. Again in her rambling talk she tells of two black eyes that continually stare at her., Recently she told her mother that .a little angel had appeared to her saying that if she would “prick" the eyes out, her trouble would van- ish. She has since been closely watched for on more than one occa- sion she has sought some pointed in- strument while in the sub-normal state. " FRANCE FEELS BLOW IPeb 7.-—(By the Associated Press)—Passage of the allied debt re- funding bill by the American congress is regarded by most of the FKrench press as a severe blow to France. They attributed it to German propaganda. It is pointed out in various editorials that France must now pay the United States annually 1,500,000,000 paper francs in interest, while the maximum cash she can reasonably expect from Germany would be 52 per cent of| 700,000,000 gold marks—the amount fixed at the recent supreme council meeting at Cannes—or about 1,100,- 000,000 pappr francs.
