HIBERNIANS OFF T0 IRELAND IN JULY National Board Making Plans for Pilirimage to Free State national board of the Ancient Order of Hibernians is making plans for a pilgrimage to Ireland on or about July 14. A good sized delega- tion from this city is planning to at- tend and Robert M. Murray, president of the local branch of the Hibernians, has already made definite reservation. to go. A meeting of the board:was held in Washington, 1. C. on Sunday, Janu- ar; 9, and a vote of approval was given to the idea, and a committee was appointed to arrange for the trip. The idea of a pilgrimage originated in Connecticut among the members of the order, and it has been fostered and spread about through the eflorts of Major Kdward Lyons of Hartford. The matter was brought to the at- tention of the ional board with the result that it will soon be a reality. 10 Days in Ireland. Present plans call for a round trip under the auspices of the A. O. H. for all the members of the order and their friends. 1t will consist of one full week going over, a 10 day stay sight- seeing in Ireland, and a full week coming back. It will be an opportun- ity for all those who have thought much about the land of their ancestors to visit the island and at the same time there will be many who were born in Ireland who will have a chance to visit the scencs of their childhood. The 2 2,500 Will Go. 'here are at present about 2,500 people in Connecticut who have signi- fied their intentions of making the pil- grimage to the free state and there are many more who are inquiring for the particulars, Mrs. M. T. Crean, president of the lLadies’ Auxiliary has received within the past few weeks, hundreds of communications asking about the pilgrimage and when the final plans are made it is expected that a great number of Connecticut people will be among the passengers on the ship. Much interest has bheen shown in local Hibernian circles about the mat- ter and it is expected that a large delegation of New Britain people will make the journey. There are quite a number of Irish natives and descen- dants in this city and the majority of them are making plans to visit Ire- land this year. So far, however, no action has been taken concerning the pilgrimage because the final p'ans are Incomplete. TAX TIPS GIVEN TO MOTOR CAR OWNERS Here's a Way Revenue Collector Will Lose Out, It Is Declared, Boston, Ifeb. 7.—Here's a way for automobile owners and drivers to save on their federal income tax. The law allows the addition to an exemption of the money paid the state for an automobhile or driving license. There is no luxury tax on automo- biles. But an excise tax of 5 per cent. of the sales price which is paid by the manufacturers. And while it is usnal fer the manufacturers to add this to} the purchase pricc of the car, a pir-| chase price of a car, a purchaser may chaser may not claim exemption for having paid it. This promises to be a hard year (nr! those who have won money prizes or cups in beauty, athletic or similar con- tests. or according to the way the lavs is interpreted at the local tax office, these must rightly be consid- ered as part of one’s income. Kor they were given, officials claim, “for gervices rendered.” Already at the tax office there have appeared between 2000 and 3000 peo- ple for aid in préparing their reports. And many of these, according to the collectors, have not even taken the trouble to open the envélope in which | the form was mailed to them.
