S. NAVAL RESERVE ORGANIZATION ALLOWS FOR FOUR DIVISIONS IN CITY Plans of Navy Department Announced — Possibility of Eagle Boat For Activ Units. According to an announcement made by the U. 8. Naval Reserve Force, It is quite possible that the tity of New Britain will soon have at loast one division of Naval Reservists on active duty within a short time. Tentative organization of the mem- bers of the resgrves who served dur- he war has been made by the (5l tles of the Third Naval Dis- triet and from this organization New Britain will draw four units or di- visions. As there is no compulsory service whatever in connection with the Reserve force at this time, it is doubtful if the full complement of the four divisions can be raised, but there are admirable facilities offered for tascinating work to those who will signify their wish to become a part of the getive personnel. In all probabil- Itles, should an actlve division be raised here an eagle boat or sub- haser would be assigned to the local 'unit. It would be avallable for crujses from Middletown down to the lound and thence to sea, or for week- nd trips ta points in this locality, The announcement from headquar- of the Third Naval District ex- [Plaine that the tentative organization been made up with the idea of teresting reservists in further drills iring thelr period of enlistment and o gain re-enrollments. There is no pulsory service. There have been battalions organized in the stote, One for each congressional district, th the exception of the second dis- riet, where there are two. Hartford Pointy s to have one battalion with 9 divisions. The second battalion in New London, Windham and visions. New Haven county furnishes | the Third battalion with 24 divielons, | Fuirfield, the Fourth, with 16 divis- | lons; Litchfield, the fifth, with two divisions, and Middlesex, the Sixth with two divisions, Members of the Reserve who take part in 36 drills per annum, which may be held evenings, and spend 15 days at sea are regarded as active members. For this service the reser- vists receive retainer pay of one dol- lar per month d base pay while at sea unless they are confirmed in their rating when they recelve two months base pay per year for the rate which they hold. There is a 25 per cent in- crease for re-enrollment. While there is no possibility of the reservists being called for duty un- less a national emergency arises, the wish is to keep well trained unite in every locafity and it is for this rea- son that the navy is furnishing sup- plies and equipments ta the units which will signify their willingness to §0 into active training. Rifles, uni- forms, whaleboats, launches and so forth will be given by the government, and the department quotes the case of a unit in Rye, New York, which has a sub-chaser now assigned to it and which, it is expected, will get an eagle boat within a short time, Providing a boat is given, week-end cruilses of the unit will count as three of the evening drill periods. There are no obligations upon any man to go into active training, but the Third Naval District, in its tenta- tive plan calls for four un'ts com- | Fajrview street; posed of New Britain men and off. | 2¢-2, 78 Lincoln street. ficlent men volunteer for active serv- ice to form one unit it will be possible | to procure one here. The lines of the divisions as outlined below are not strictly drawn. But the tentative outline of the local divisions, which, by the way, contains a directory of local sallors who served during the World War is as follows: - Thirtcenth Division. R. B. Searles, Lieut.
