BURKHARDT ASSESSOR 30 YEARS NEXT JUNE Tax List Has Grown to Ten Times the Figure of Year in Which Chair- man First Took Up Position. August Burkhardt, chairman of lhq board of assessors in point of service the oldest assessor in the State of Connecticut, will complete 30 years of hardt became connected with the city government In June. When Mr. Burk- hardt became conected with the city government as an assessor the grand list had just made a “Jump” to $7,- 500,000, while in 1921 his 30th year in that department holds possibilities of & $76,000,000 grand list, just 10 times the first amount. He has held an elective office longer than any other man in the city government and since the change of that position to be ap- pointive he has been honored by cholce of mayors representing both major political parties. In 1891 Mr. Burkhardt was nomi- nated for the office of assessor at a town caucus, under the old dual form of government, and was elected. Six- teen successive caucuses similarly hon- ored him. After that time the office was made appointive, it being during the Landers administration. Mayors Landers, Halloran and Quigley includ- ed Mr. Burkhardt in their city 4p- pointments.
