Chicago, July 13.—Investigation of ex-Lieut. Carl Wanderer’s motive for killing his wife and the unidentified stranger he hired for a fake robbery has revealed the police said today, that he had many friendships with girls, some of which ran concurrent- ly with his married life. Among them was Grace Horne, whom he knew before his umarriage, according to his sisters. Among Wanderer's letters found by the police was one of a puzzling nature signed “Anonymous” and couched in endearing terms. Wanderer declared he could tell no motive for the crime other than his desire to return to the army. The police questioned Miss Julia Schmitt, a stenographer after it was learned that Wanderer had written a letter to her. Both denied .any- thing more than a casual friendship. Miss Schmitt said she did not know Wanderer was married. TRIO OF QUADRUPLETS LIVE. Putnam Couple Have Children by Twos, Threes and Fours. Putnam, July 13.—Three of four male infants born to Mr. and Mrs. Benedict Lecroix of Worcester, recent residents here, are living. Mr. Le- croix is 26 and his wife a few months younger. They have been married six years and in that time have 13 children, two sets of twins, triplets, twins and now the quadruplets. Medical men hereabout are amazed at this record, claiming that while twins occur in cne out of 87 births, triplets once in every 7,103, quad- ruplets are expected only once in every 757,000 births. The three living boys of the four are diminutive, but appear healthy, nearly a week after birth. MARSHALL TAKING REST. Vice-President Not Going to Work Until Next December.
