The fight is a three-cornered one, and the Meriden delegation had a fine time before the committee. Fay has the solid support of the senator and representatives from Meriden and King has the support of the demo- crats, who say now that the place should be out of politics, and the women. One of the speakers in favor of Judge King was Miss Caroline Buell of Northampton, state president of the W. C. T. U. She said that the work of the W. C. T. U. had taken her to 'Meriden often and that she had had plenty of opportunity to see what excellent work Judge King was doing. She said he had cleaned up the town. She asked his re_appoint- ment in behalf of the women and children of the city of Meriden. There was a number of other speakers on both sides. No Opposition to Fenn. There was no opposition to the re- appointment of Willis I. Fenn as dep- uty judge. Cornelius Danaher made an elo- quent address in behalf of his brother. Hartford Judgeship Hearings. The Hartford judgeships alsa came up for a hearing. Senator Louis R. Cheney of Hartford announced that all difference between the represen- tatives and senators from Hartford over the appointments had been patched up, and that they had agreed upon Judge Edward L. Steele for judge and Edwin C. Dickenson, for- merly prosecutor, for associate judge. The resolutions for Solomon Elsner and Marris Older, republican candi- dates for associate judge, were with- drawn. Senator John L. Purcell said a good word for Frederick G. Eberle, the democratic candidate. He asked that the committee defer filling one of the places until his bill for a charter amendment to make the Hartford po- lice court non partisan has been acted upon. A number of minor court judgeships came up for hearing, together with a resolution to establish a city court in Stratford. There was na opposi- tion on any of the others.
