It said: “Noel H. Field and his wife, Herta K. Field, American citizens, asked for political asylum from the government of the Hungarian Peo- ple’s Republic. The Hungarian goy- ernment has granted the asylum.” American diplomats had no ad- vance word. They learned the news from correspondents. “I really cannot comment—what could I say?” said a spokesman for the American legation in the absence of U.S. Minister Christian M. He} Pope Pius Gives Greetings To Entire World VATICAN CITY W—Pope Pius | XII, from the “loneliness of suf- fering” today gave his Christmas greetings and blessing “‘to all peoples, to their rulers, to those who bear the responsibility of the world’s destinies.” “To all of these,” said the ailing 78-year-old head of the Roman Catholic church, “may the mes- §age of the goodness and peace of hs son of God-made man reach out.”” The Pope’s words maintained un- broken the long series of annual Christmas pleas for peace which he has made since he became head of the Church in 1939. Referring to his weeks of illness, the pontiff said, ‘In the loneliness of suffering and with gratitude to the Catholic world for the prayers unceasingly poured forth for our consolation, we are, in our good wishes of peace, thinking of all our children scattered throughout the world, and indeed, of the whole hu- man family.” The Pope’s voice was stronger than at any time since his grave collapse Dec. 2. He expressed sorrow that, for the first time in 16 years, his con- dition prevented him from making his long annual Christmas message to the world, always primarily a plea for peace. This message, he | said, he is now preparing and it will be issued for publication as | soon as it is ready. Building Permits C. E. Sawyer, 312 Angela, wall, | $200. ;__W. I. These doors can be opened to make suites, Near the utility room is the boil- er room. The boiler is equipped with a pump, giving instant hot water to any room in the building. Outside, in the beautifully land- scaped grounds, a barbecue pit is being built. This is for the conven- fence of the guests who may have caught fish they wish to cook. The new building contains 20 units. Across the parking area and | tropical garden from the new struc- ture is the old Blue Marlin which was built in 1947. It has 13 units. ' From Les Angeles Schlesinger, who will manage both buildings, said the two struc- tures will give tourists a choice of two price ranges for accommoda- tions. Schlesinger and his wife, Eliz- abeth, drive here from Los Ange- lee to take over management of! the new motel. An interested passenger with the Schlesingers was Skipper, their parakeet. He rode most of the way from L. A. perched on the steer- ing wheel, Schlesinger said. Schlesinger was here in 1947 when the original Blue Marlin was built. “One of the reasons we left Los Angeles,” he said, ‘‘was the smog.” He doesn’t expect to find smog here. Taking over the housekeeping du- ties at the new Blue Marlin is Mrs. Edna Carey. She has been with Jack Dietsch, owner of the motel, for more than six years. She is assisted by Pearl Thompson and Ruth: Munnings.
