Friday, October 1, 1954 THE Ukraine Sees _ Youth Seeking Blue Collar Jobs MOSCOW Ukrainian author ities expect high school graduates of the future will become enthusi- astic scientific farmers and KEY WEST CITIZEN Page 9 machine operators and will stop wanting white collar jobs. A drastic change in the cirri- culum of 26 schools in the Ukraine, Russia’s richest agricultural area, takes effect today: The program, which the publication Teachers’ Gazette calls experimental, ex- tends a similar plan already being tried in the big industrial areas of Moscow and Leningrad. ‘It provides that students with ‘good records through the seventh grade will receive technical train- ing for 4% more years instead of taking academic subjects through the 10th grade as heretofore. When they complete their courses; they will receive diplomas listing them as special assistants to agronom- ' }ists, veterinarians, zoologists, or KEY WEST AIRPORT MEACHAM FIELD electrical technicians. “In addition to their school train- ing, they will get practical farm aaa experience during vaca- Three other schools will train in-| jn dustrial technicians, such as ma- chine operators. The Ukrainian Council of Minis- ters said the graduates will “be sent to the appropriate ministry to work in accordance with their spe-1 cialty.”” . The drop in demand for white collar jobs is expected to- result from the added prestige which the new technical assistants will en- joy. * Subscribe. To The Citizen NEED MONEYS WE have it!
