Gains at the best went into the major fractions, and there were many minus signs in the list, but the higher trend of the market as a whole was unmistakable. Higher with the aircrafts and steels were most motors, distillers, radio-televisions, utilities. coppers, chemicals, railroads, oils, airlines, and many textiles. No major group was clearly depressed. Among higher stocks were U.S. Steel, General Motors, Studebaker, Boeing, Douglas Aircraft, National Distillers, Radio Corp., Kennecott Copper, Du Pont, General Electric, Southern Railway, and Texas Co. Lower were Youngstown Sheet & Tube, U.S. Rubber, American Smelting, International Nickel, Westinghouse Electric, and New York Central.
