SOCIETY — PERSONALS — NEWS OF INTEREST TO WOMEN ITEMS OF INTEREST TO EVERYONE TELEPHONE: Citizen Office, 2.5661 ‘Thursday, June 10, 1954 ‘THE KEY WEST CITIZEN Page 3 SSS SUE JONES, Editor —Little late today—had to take Joan to the Hospital for a fungus infection of the ear — shall dis- pense—regretfully—with my usual “top of the column visit”. i So, another time shall theorize, philosophize, “weatherize” and so- lilquize—but for now, shall be about the buying—with your per- mission— gaa 2&5 Do you plan to knit today? — Embroider or crochet? Well, just go see Miss Faye in her unique little shop, 504 William’ Street. All the supplies—yarn, needles, embroidery floss, beautiful “stamped” pieces you need for “handiwork” are found here. Noticed the astonishing selection of colors in the skeins! Miss Faye will be glad to help “interpret the instructions” on whatever you buy or are work- ing .on. Don’t overlook this little shop—on William near Fleming _ —Miss Faye’s Art and Needle Supply! S32 ese Speaking of the Navy Hospital— saw many of the nurses I knew when yours truly “gray ladied” some time ago. Also met Dr. Mar- shall who was very kind with Joan’s bum ear—said “hi” to Captain Reid—chatted’ with that wonderful ‘‘Anna” of the desk. Altogether, was real impressed with the courtesy, kindness and consideration which was expressed in all the places we had to go. -The Pharmacy Officer was ex- tremely pleasant—and, just thought the Navy people would like to know that their Hospital in Our Town is a fine place! , SB aes Want fo tell you of a “Slender- fzing Salon’’—all the equipment to make your measurements less is found in a eee ee Aloe able Beauty Salon, imonton. So, here you can get beth:slender and beautiful! Raa &8 Comes now not only a fish story but one with complications, Last week, Rex Bumgard and Paul Da- mon went out in the Tatter’s ‘plas- tic boat and they caught—~HONEST —a 215 pound Jewfish—with their little spears! m To do such a thing is quite a bus- iness and one would think that the photographing of the catch rela- tively simple! However, it turned into one of those slapstick things —Now the fish is, but the camera isn’t — and this went on for hours. Finally, after the photographer (finally caught one) waited and waited—it was decided that the fish had disappeared completely! Don’t ask me what happened to it—probably carved up for steaks —but at least the photographers are intact! S228 5 “Overse: ushers in thoughts of romance, but not to yours tru- ly, ‘cause 1 instantly think of all the tropical, exotic fruit at the— Overseas Fruit Market, 934 Tru- man Avenue. Know that many of you might think yours truly gets a bit over- erganized when trying to tell you ef Our Town's Shops — but “Frank's” Fruit Market is truly outstanding—because of the mar- velous fruits—great variety of vegetables—and the wonderful personality of his store. It is really the things a tropical fruit place should be. You'll love fust walking around there, and t + amazing selection will please ou. : While at Overseas Fruit Mar- ket, have a glass of icy cold fresh orange juice. Watch Frank squeeze it—or, if you'd prefer— there’s grapefruit too! Only place in Our Town that you'll find this! Also, ask Frank to tell you about the strange fruits—papaya, sapodilla, mango (good, good, good), plantains, etc.! Hey — chive, parsley, watercress, ro- maine, endive, scallions etc, may be bought here too! ZS 228 KEY-notes: The little kid stand- ing on his head to read the small, round sign on Duval in front of the Woman’s Club—“Do Not Park on This Side’ which someone had turned completely upside down! Saie@en For goodness’ sake—don’t miss having dinner at the A and B Lobster House! Because of un- usually lovely views and very fine food, many places the world over have become famous—and Our Town's A and B Lobster House certainly deserves to! Lo- cated at 700 Front Street (down Buval and right on Front) it is ideally situated for what yours truly calls “haphazard horizon musings” and oh, the seafood is perfectly prepared! [ee Se My Red Shawl tells me that June Williams had guests and forgot her writing! == eee Seeing Poray Studio, 404 South- ard Street—today will mean a wonderful keepsake of a picture —tomorrow and always, Sometimes pictures of people are funnier than — people are! However, a good photographer, like Poray Studio — is, always alert for that insignificant, thing which might appear ludicrous in @ photograph. This is especially true of the “candid” shots. So many times, at weddings, or any festivity you will find that even the best ama- teur photographer will slip up. So, when the ring is on your fin- ger and you have said “I Will” —phone Poray - 2-3088—so that the day you say, “I Do”—they can make a pictorial review—all the events—including, of course, the “Big One”. see My Red Shaw! tells me there was an impromptu gathering of boats (five, plus a “Sailfish” which is really a sailboat!) and skis at Garrison Bight. Amongst the many there were the Stanleys, the Harpers, . the Mays, the Ritsches, the Gillispies, the Dowlings and boat, Art Ewald and boat, the Matthews and boat, the Davenports,. the Keebaughs with their son, Corton, the Cooleys and the Nealons who are now en route to Oceania. ; So, there was a good time had by people and skis and boats of Sunday! zZ 2 = Za “Bill's Supermarket’ at the Poinciana Center -is swell store. As this grocery has recently opened, you really should go by. and see it. Everything you need is here. Yours truly loved the little potatoes lined up—all in a row—white, red, Idaho, sweet and the small new ones. Noticed too the “‘Brach’t candy stall and then, what | think is a swell custom—all the little kids receive. lollypops or peppermint sticks free which keep them hap- py while Mother shops. Met “Chuck” of the butcher counter and “smoked” over his meats—conversationally that is. All the beef, pork and the other. choice, high quality meat is “Western” which means the best. Poinciana Center—that’s where you'll find Bill’s Supermarket! a2 = 28 What in the world are those boys —Auld Clootie and Bill Gibb a fussin’ for?? Heavens, yours truly. just loves to read the way they do throw those words about. Remember “‘Auld Clootie” when he used to deliver the mail on his |bike—with the big wooden basket and sing operatic arias. Added a bit to the color and charm of Our Town. Now in this air conditioned studio, your children may take ballet lessons from Princess Nina Carracciola who has an excellent background in this field. A class also for business girls is being formed. Wonderful way to exer- cise! At—the Arthur Murray Studio! Ss "BYE bye BLISS: te ie of the loveliest ladies in Our Town. Sma | pasr PARTIELES: From our SUMMER BRIDE-TO-BE—Miss Barbara Jean Dickens, whose engagement to Terry LaFayette Jones is being announced today by her mother, Mrs. Faye Dickens of 615 Grinnell Street. Her fiance is the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Jones of Fort Lauderdale. Both Miss Dickens and Mr. Jones were members of this year’s graduating class at Key West High School. Miss Dickens has chosen the month of August for her wedding.—Photo by Poray. ee GS Leaders Plan For Summer Troop Activities Here Summer troop plans were dis- cussed by Girl Scout Leaders at their meeting at the Wesley House last night. ‘ Some of the troops have suspend- ed their meetings and will only participate in the summer swim- ming program at the Seaplane Base pool. Others will continue meetings for most of the summer. The proposed “day camp” in August was also discussed and it was decided that if the plans for this camp materialize, a special meeting of the Leaders Club would be called. Miss Mary Trevor, registrar for the Florida Keys Girl Scout Coun- cil, attended the meeting and ans- wered questions on the new pro- cedures of registering under a Girl Scout Council instead of directly with National as “Lone Troops.” She stressed that all new and addi- tional registrations should be sent to her and not to National. After the business meeting, Mrs. Neill Saunders, volunteer train. gave instructions for several sing. ing games and square dances. New York Sun Man—circa 1899! “I have already spoken of the fishing. It cannot be surpassed. The waters swarm with grunts, snappers, pompano, kingfish, stur- geon and sharks. The boating is superb, but there are no boats.
