Luncheon In spite of the rainy weather, a large crowd of gay, holiday spirited members turned out for the Naval Station Officers’ Wives’ Club luncheon held yesterday (afternoon), at Fort Taylor Officers’ Club. Mrs. Irving T. Duke, Mrs. R. F. Foster and Mrs. J. E. Croup served as hostesses for the gala Mrs. Croup presented all mem- bers and gu sts present with very unique Santa Claus name tags. Cocktails were enjoyed in the beautifully decorated lounge. Large around the lounge added much to the Christmas spirit. Long pine and varigated Christ- mas tree ornaments peeped be- neath the glass topped tables. Glittering Christmas tree balls formed minature Christmas trees in jewel tones of silver, emerald, gold and ruby. Mrs. McKinney and Mrs. Wood- ard presided at the punch bowl, which was festively decorated with Florida Holly and large poinsetta blooms. Also in keeping with the Christ- mas Spirit were snow white pine cones, poinsetta blossoms, and long sprigs of holly which graced the luncheon tables. Many thanks were voted to Mrs. Dank for a most delightful lunch of southern baked ham, sweet pota- toes, salad and hot biscuits, follow- ed by lime sherbert and coffee. Paul Touchton of First Methodist Church read the, story of the birth of the Christ Child and gave an inspiring prayer. The boys and girls of Truman Chorus, under the direction of Mrs. Catherine Logan, harmonized beau- tifully the following songs of the Christmas season: “Birthday of a King,” “The First Noel,” “Gloria in Excelsis Deo” and “Silent Night.” The first grade pupils of Mrs. Ruth Wright entertained with colorful skits, songs and dances. Membership chairman Jack Mur- ray announced that the total mem- bers obtained to date are 417 with four rooms reporting 100 per cent membership. They are first grade, Miss Miriam Carey and Mrs. Jose- phine Doughtry; 2nd grade, Mrs. Mary Sweeting and the fourth grade, Mrs. Amelia Cabot. Room count awards were presented to the pupils of Mrs. Wright and Mrs. Winifred Fryzell to display the banner for the coming month. Room Representative Chairman Mrs. J. C. Wheeler, Jr. announced that the annual Christmas party for pupils of Truman School will be held Friday, Dec. 19 at 10 o‘clock in the auditorium. KARL AGRICOLA FETED WITH SURPRISE PARTY A surprise buffet birthday supper was given December 9 by Mrs. Karl Agricola in honor of her hus- band’s natal day, at their home on Stock Island. The main entree was baked ham with Italian dishes, relishes and other delicacies. Elks Sisters Benefit Dance Raises Fund Fred Hernandez of 720 Thomas Street was awarded the Westing- house Mobilaire fan at the Elks Sisters benefit dance November 29. Proceeds from the fan realized some $70 for the benefit of the Monroe County Cerebral Palsy and Cripples Association. The raising of this impressive amount was largely due to the fine efforts of Mrs. Grace Palacios, who was in charge of all arrangements. She was ably assisted by Mr. Floyd Hannibal of the Regular Fellows.
