Notwith- standing, thé local radio station collects its reg@lar check made against the Wel- fare ‘te which, as this writer prets'the Welfare Fund to mean what it says—aiding the indigent. sl : THE ORACLE © RESPECT PEDESTRIANS’ RIGHTS vety driver of a motor vehicle has a tender regard for thé rights of the pedes- trian w trian. O& such oceasions, they ate ina position ‘to understand that approximate- ly 65 per cent of all persons injured or killed in automobile accidents are pedes- trians. After a narrow escape from some driver, they are then willing to believe that a piedestrian is entitled to safety and that whether he is in the right or wrong, the driver should protect him. We hope that every automobile driver in Monroe County who reads this, will make up his or her mind to drive care- fully, having regard for the presence of children in the streets, the location of schools and playgrounds and the natural tendency of children to ignore danger of which they are not fully aware. AND WHAT DID THEY DRINK? The New York Times carries a first page article-in which it shows that: «the water supply lost-203,000,000 gallons of water ine@ couple of days, and that was so yreata Que ntity that ‘we, the people” had no aqua pura to drink. But, we haven’t seen any figures showing what they did drink. The general opinion is that nobody went thirsty in New, York. . ‘adg at home if you expect home- town frade. While it is not possible, nor should one expect, both parties to -agree in detail upon the foreign policy it ought to be ‘possible for them to get together on main essentials. This is what the nation has right to, expect of all parties, regardless directing our relations with other nations. You can receive and sell out a consign- ment of merchandise with newspaper ad- vertising in less time than it takes to prepare a circular. (4) Do you want to be recognized as a factor of importance in your community —a real hometown store? If you do, use the newspaper — it undoubtedly is a ‘strong factor-in'the building of good will and acceptance by the whole town of your store as a good ‘place to trade.” Eating is important in life, neverthe- less, too much of it doesn’t make for much living. WHAT IS YOUR MENTAL STATUS? The average citizen of Monroe County would not be hurt by a careful analysis of his or her mental state. While most of us usually like to boast of our intelligence, the fact is that few of us ever try to do more than assert our opinions, many of them picked up years ago and never tested since that day. Seekers after truth, if such there be, should resolutely attempt to master the new facts that detailed research has re- vealed in all important lines of human thought, Philosophical inhabitants, if still conscious, should, it seems, reset their theories in order to conform to recently discovered facts. To the many youngsters who are at- tending schools and colleges, we call at- tention to the necessity of regarding their training as a starting ‘point in the search for truth. When every graduate shall leave college with the clear understand- ing that what he has learned is nothing but the base of education, we May put it down that our teaching is amounting to something. ase ; ay ‘of what administration happens to. be,| hed outdistance all of them. , “They say the’ devil “protects He ZACHARY ‘went pale tan. : or what ‘ie, ie “ined w we justice would be a f sti #] hind ie bn ~ had taken i precaution to a .
