NEW YORK, April 27—Impor- tant swings in today’s quiet bond market were confined to the for- eign list where various leaders pushed up 1 to 3 points. Most prominent were Japanese 614s and 6%s, German 5%s and 7s, Belgian 6s, 6125 and 7 and Uruguay 6s. Most of the gains, traders thought, were due to speculative » buying for a rally inspired by the recent sharp drop in prices on war developments. Corporate loans were listless and prices remained narrow. Closing fractionally higher were Deleware & Hudson refunding 4s at 561, Great Northern “G” 4s of '46 8t 104, St. Paul 5s at 6%, Youngs- town Sheet & Tube 4s at 106'/, and New York Central 55 at 587, Down a little were bonds of Rem- Ington Rand, M-K-T, International Paper and American & Foreign Power. Only a few United States Govern- ments were traded at prices ranging from 13/32ds higher to 2/32ds lower. Transactions of $2,756,000, face value, were the smallest for a short session since February 3. Volume on the previous Saturday was $3,- 078,700. Baltimore Markets Special Dispatch to The Star. BALTIMORE, Md., April 27.—The week brought about good demand for live poultry, especially the bete ter grades. Quotations on both Yyoung stock and some fowl in- creased from 1 to 2 cents per pound. Peking ducks also were higher, the increase ranging from 2 to 3 cents. Old rocks and leghorns, roosters and capons remained steady. Al- though receipts during the early part of the week were rather light, they increased to moderate later. The price changes also developed during the last half of the period. With the exception of a few little- wanted items, the stock was fairly well cleared at the close. Young rocks increased from 1 to 2 cents and sold 20 and 23. Crosses were 1 cent h)gher at 19 and 22 and some mixed 'colors increased 2 cents, the prices being 18 and 22. Young leghorns, 1% pounds and up, continued mostly 18. Old rocks ‘were about steady at 17 and 19 with a few selling a little higher and mixed colors increased 1 cent, bring- ing 16 and 18 with a few selling at a premium, Old leghorns continued 13 and 15. Roosters were slow to move at 10 and 12 for mixed colors and 7 and 10 for leghorns. Young Pekin ducks, 5 pounds and up, increased 2 to 3 cents and sold 17 and 18. Capons were in good demand at 26 and 28 for birds weighing 7 pounds and up. Egg Prices Steady. Egg prices remained practically steady best nearby ungraded whites selling 16% and 17!, dozen. Mixed colors were unchanged at 16 and 1815 * above average on most days. The general trend was downward on most native and nearby garden truck, the market on which was rather dull. Maryland round white potatoes, however, were steady, sel- ling 1.60a1.75 per 100-pounds. Spin- ach declined slightly to 20a45 bushel and kale was steady, selling 15a25 bushel. Purple top turnips con- tinued unchanged at 15a30 half- bushel. Rhubarb was lower, selling 3a6 bunch. Livestock Market. Cattle—50. Compared with Fri- day last week steers steady to shade higher; medium and good 900-1,250 pounds 8.50-9.75; few part load lots up to 1050 and pair 1,040 pounds 11.00; common lightweights down to 8.00 and few below; heifers scarce; best 9.25 weight 970 pounds; cows steady; beef kinds 6.00-7.00; strictly good to 17.50; 4.50-5.75; thin lightweights down to 4.00; sausage bulls steady with week ago; weak to 25 under Monday; late sales 7.25 down. PHILADELPHIA, April 27—The Feading Co. reported today net in- come of $4,721,651 last year, equal to $137 per common share, com- pared to $3295300, equal to 35 cents a share, in 1938, Edward W. Scheer, president, told stockholders in his annual report that the railroad’s operating reve- nues in 1939 were the highest of any year since 1931, with the ex- ception of 1936 and 1937. Receipts from transportation of general merchandise, he said, were larger than in any year except 1937 and accounted for more than 47 per cent of all operating revenues.
