NEW YORK, Oct. 29.—International Business Machines Corp. reported a net income in the first nine months totaled $6,572,666, after charges, taxes, etc., equal to $8.47 a share on the capital stock. This compared with $5,738,406, or $7.76, in the first nine months of 1936. In the September quarter net in- come was $2,608,618, compared with $2,261,905 in the September quarter last year. Gillette Safety Razor. Gillette Safety Razor Co. of Boston reported net profit in the first nine months was $3,424,202, equal to $1.15 a share on the common stock, com- pared with $3,422,177, or $1.13, in the comparable period last year. Babcock & Wilcox. Babcock & Wilcox Co., manufac- turers of boilers and machinery, re- ported for the nine months net profit of $944,402, equal to $4.21 a share on 223,990 shares of capital stock. This compared with a net loss of $132,949 in the similar period of 1936. The figures are exclusive of the company's proportion of undistributed net earn- ings of companies more than 50 per cent owned. American Metal Co. American Metal Co. for the quarter ended September 30 reported consoli~ dated net income of $1,081,184, before the Federal undistributed profits sur- tax, equal after preferred dividends to 80 cents a common share, against $342,769, or 20 cents a common share, in the like 1936 quarter. Mid-Continent Petroleum. Mid-Continent Petroleum Corp. for the September quarter reported con- solidated net income of $1,512,118, before the Federal undistributed prof- its surtax, equal to 82 cents a com- mon share, against $1,860,735, or $1 a share, in the preceding quarter and $1,784,410, or 96 cents a share, in the like 1936 quarter. E Kelsey-Hayes Wheel. Kelsey-Hayes Wheel Co. for the September quarter reported consoli- dates net income of $24,004, before the Federal undistributed profits surtax, share. This compares with net income of $587,410, or $1.09 a share on combined class “A” and “B"” stock in the pre- ceding quarter and $42,140, including non-recurring profit of $203,692, or 14 cents a class “A” share, in the September, 1936, quarter. Freeport Sulphur Co. for the Sep- tember quarter reported net income of $699,518, after the Federal undis- tributed profits surtax, equal after preferred dividends to 85 cents a com- mon share, against $495638, or 60 cents a share, in the like 1936 quarter. | American Ice Co. American Ice Co. reported consoli- dated net income for the quarter ended September 30, $535,709, before Federal surtax, equal to 58 cents & common share. This compared with $616,752 or 73 cents a common share in the like quarter last year. HOPEWELL, Va, Oct. 29.—Di- rectors of the Hummel-Ross Fibre Corp. have declared a dividend of 20 cents per share on common stock, pay- able November 15 to stockholders as of November 1. The corporation reported for the nine months ended September 30 profit available for the common stock amounted to $603,563, equal to $1.55 per share on the 389,611 shares out- standing. By the Associated Press NEW YORK, Oct. 29.—Bethlehem Steel Corp., second largest unit in the industry, earned nearly three times as much per common share in the third quarter of 1937 than in the similar period last year, but earnings dropped slightly under the second quarter figures, its directors reported yesterday. Net income was $9,249,560, equal to | $2.31 a common share against $4,575,~ 058, or 85 cents a share after pre- ferred dividends in the comparable period of 1936 and $10,022,874, or $2.56 | & share in the preceding period. For the first nine months net in- come was $27,566,267, or $6.88 a share, against $8,609,514, or $1.01 a share in the similar period of 1936. Fulfilling expectations generally held in Wall Street, a dividend of $1.50 a share on the common was declared. Eugene Grace, president, explained another meeting of the board would be held in December to appraise fourth quarter results and decide if any fur- ther dividend action shiuld be taken. Payments so far this year have been $4. including the forthcoming dis- bursement. Paramount Pictures. Paramount Pictures, Inc., estimated consolidated earnings for the third quarter at $1,958,000, equal after pre- ferred dividends to 67 cents a share on the common stock. For the nine months ended October 2, earnings were estimated at $5,276,000, or $1.78 a share on the common. The figures in both periods do not include Paramount's direct interest in earnings of partly owned and non- consolidated subsidiaries. Earnings in the three-month period of 1936, including Paramount’s share in partly owned companies was $2.- 260,764, and for the nine months, $3,287,224 on the same basis. Merchants & Miners. The Merchants & Miners Transpor- tation Co. reported net income of $80,280 for the quarter ended Septem- ber 30, or 34 cents a share. Net profits for the corresponding period last year totaled $364,992 or $1.54 a share. Parker Pen Co. Parker Pen Co. of Janesville, W reported consolidated net profit for 31, 1937, after depreciation and normal Federal income taxes, but before al- lowance for tax on undistributed profit was $262,781.81. Per share earnings based on 196,052 shares out- | standing August 31, were $1.34, co pared with $1.19 on 192,744 shares for | the first six months of the 1936 fiscal year. Eastern Gas & Fuel. ‘The Eastern Gas & Fuel Associ: an affiliate of the Koppers Co., r ed gross income of $11,190,240 for the ear ending September 30, a jump of |s 71 above last year. After pro- viding for preferred stock dividends of $3,361,000, income taxes and $4,000,- 000 for depreciation and depletion, the company had a deficit of $391,669, | compared with $525,566 lost in the preceding year. Flintkote Co. reported consolidated net income for the 12 weeks ended Oc- | tober 9 of $432,757, before Federal sur- | tax. equal to 65 cents a common share, | compared w $473.482, or 71 cents & | share, in the same period last year. In the 40 weeks ended October 9 net income was $1.091.991, or $1.63 a share, compared with $944.881, or $141 & share, in the like 1936 weeks. Skelly 0il Co. Skelly Oil Co. reported net profit for the quarter ended September 30 of $1911,022, or $1.80 a common share, compared with $1.307505, or $1.20 a share, in the September quar- ter last year. For the nine months net profit was $5,346.940, or $5.02 a | common share, against $3,511431, or $3.19 a share, in the like 1936 period.
