Today, AMEK!CAP{ SHIPPER— body Thursday, Dr. Pergler, now dean | BRE! of the law department of National | REx__Gi University, declared that German am- bitions in Central Europe constitute A serious but little understood threat to the peace of the world. Ciechoslovakia Held Target. German propaganda and diplomacy, which usually prepares the way for forcible measures, he said, are aimed at the domination if not destruction of Czechoslovakia. Stating that Czechoslovakia, being in the very heart of Europe and as an independent state, stands as an ob- stacle to German expansion eastward, Dr. Pergler added. “Should Czechoslovakia be con- | trolled by Germany, that would of itself very materially enhance Ger- | man might and would provide a strong | base for a further march of the Ger- | mans toward Eastern Europe, particu- | BRI larly against Russia.” Two Charges Advanced. He said Germany is making two main charges against Czechoslovakia | to gain the good will of the Western world while Hitler seeks to strengthen | his position in central Europe. The | first charge, he said, is that the Ger- | man minority in Czechoslovakia is being mistreated, and the other is that Czechoslovakia has become an advance guard of communism. ‘The speaker denied both these | charges, asserting that the German minority has been very well treated, particularly in the field of education, and declaring that the people of Czechoslovakia are a thrifty, hard- working race, whose every instinct is opposed to communism.
