FTER a long, hard day at the office, or a particularly diffi- cult shopping excursion there is something very pleasant and soothing about an atmosphere of | candlelight in which to dine or lounge Instead of the glare of the ordinary lights found in most homes it is a definite relief to be able to enjoy pleasantly subdued lighting which casts & warm glow about the room and imparts a feeling of eom- fort and coziness. It is an easy matter to use the old-fashioned type of candle to se- cure this effect, but you always have the trouble and expense of replacing them after a short period. Half- burned ones don’t make a very tidy appearance on an elaborately set table, 5 and the drippings will ruin fine liens. The answer to this problem may be found in the use of a remarkable new electric lamp which faithfully reproduces the effect of the old-fash- loned candle without any of its bother or untidiness. These Jamps can be used in either the standard base or candelabra socket making it possible for you to place | them in ordinary wall bracket lighting ration of a room can be made to add | & tremendous amount of charm and | distinction to all sorts of rooms. If you have spent a great deal of | time and money on creating a period room ‘with furnishings and supple- mentary decoration all in perfect taste | it seems rather odd to have to spoil the effect with a great display of twen- tieth century electric lighting equip- ment. However, by the simple process of changing the larger standard bulb with a candlelight lamp you can immediately obtain the effect which | You have no doubt long desired. Candlelight lamps are available in clear glass. or colored in flame tint, amber or white with yellow flame tips. They are manufactured in two different shapes which lend themselves to different applications. One type is made so that it is actually shaped like a flame with its tip slightly blown, the other is somewhat more | formal and is flame shaped in a per- | fectly straight position To carry out the illusion of an ac- | tually burning candle these little | lamps have a filament which closely | resembles a lighted wick, which to-| gether with an almost transparent glass shell makes quite a remarkable | effect. lP‘ YOU have a few little leaks in the heating system which were bothersome during the Winter, but didn’t warrant drastic action, you will IT'S COOLER IN CHEVY CHASE Inspect these fine residences today or Sunday 3424 Garrison Street be interested in a synthetic solder which successfully closes up leaks without tearing the place to pieces. " This solder comes in & small can 50 that it can be placed in the boiler through the blow-off opening. When it hits the hot water it melts, and when it comes in contact with air again it instantly hardens so that any smali holes are effectively and permanently sealed. As the boiler water circulates this sealing com- pound is carried around to the leaky spot and the metallic seal is estab- lished at once. If you do it now, during your vaca- tion, for instance, when you are wan- dering about the house looking for something to do, you can be sure that when you start up the heating plant next Fall everything will be ready and willing to go. ‘Women Prefer Red.
