Y, July 1— President Roosevelt arrived here with members of his family today for a five-day stay over the July Fourth holiday. The special train that brought him from Wilmington, Del, where he at- tended the wedding of his son Frank- lin, arrived at Highland on the west ghore of the Hudson shortly after 8 a.m. (Eastern standard time). ‘The party motored across the Mid- Hudson Bridge to the Hyde Park estate for a happy post-wedding re- union. Other members of the family who attended the colorful church cere- mony and reception and who traveled on the presidential train were Mrs James Roosevelt, sr., his mother: Mr James Roosevelt, jr. a daughter: in-law and daughter; Mr. and Mrs. Elliott Roosevelt. another daughter- in-law: John Roosevelt, youngest son, | and Mrs. J. R. Roosevelt, widow of the President’s half-brother. Mrs. Henry Morgenthau, wife of the Becretary of the Treasury, also was in the party with her children. She was on the way to her home at Peeks- kill, N. Y, Maj. Harry Hooker, a Hyde Park neighbor and former Roosevelt law partner, was another train guest. ‘The President looked forward to a day of rest. He planned to receive no official callers and his only set en- gagement was a brief radio address early tonight extending greetings to Canada on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Dominions Confed- eration, WILLIAM H. LOCHREY FUNERAL TOMORROW Retired Chief Mate Served on U. 8. S. Prairie During World War. Funeral services for William H. Lochrey, 62, Woodley Park Towers Apartments, who died Tuesday in Naval Hospital, Philadelphia. will be held at 3 pm. tomerrow in Arlington National Cemetery. Mr. Lochrey, a retired chief gunner's mate, N. S. N. was the brother of James F. Lochrey, superin- tendent of the Washington district of the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co., with whom he made Ifs home here. Enlisting in the Navy in 1800, Mr, Lochrey was retired in 1920. During the World War he was on the U. S. S. Prairie. He was a native of Atlanta, Ga. His brother is his only immediate survivor, Gunner's SCOUT HURT IN FALL Bix Stitches Taken in Leg After Accident at Ball Game. WILMINGTON, Del, July 11— President Roosevelt is not a notary public, so three of his White House aides today had to wait until one could | be found before becoming full-fledged presidential secretaries. Stephen T. Early and Marvin H. | McIntyre, assistant secretaries, and James Roosevelt, administrative as- sistant, at varying salaries, became | full secretaries at $10,000 a year under | the independent offices appropriation jact. | They were to have taken the oath | last night on the President's special | train at the station near Wilmington, | but after the President and James ar- | rived an hour late from the Du Pont reception, it was explained the Presi- | dent, who was to have officiated, was | without authority to administer the oath Hence, McIntyre may try to find & stray notary during the President's stay at Hyde Park, N. Y. Early and James probably will take the oath in Washington. They did not accompany the “boss” to Hyde Park. McIntyre and Early are now assist- ant secretaries at $9.500 a year.
