CHANPION BAGS SHIM CANPAG * Miss Ann Bono Indorses Work of Y. M. C. A. and Star in the Drive. The Young Men's Christian Asso- ciation’s learn-to-swim campaign for men today was indorsed from a wom- an's point of view by Miss Ann Bono, 3947 Harrison street, Maryland Uni- versity sophomore, a famed swim champion who holds a number of Dis- trict free-style swim titles and records for women. Expressing enthusiasm over the campaign, being conducted in co-op- eraiion with The Star, Miss Bono de- clared, “Every one should know how to swim, especially a man,” and pointed to the advantages of swim- ming both as an exercise to be en- Joyed by all and as a safety measure. Miss Bono said: ““There probably is no form of exer- tise that offers as great an oppor- tunity for all to enjoy as swimming. It is a sport in which all can take part, both young and old—men, | women and children. Also, knowing | how to swim well is a great safety measure. There may come a time in any one’s life when his knowledge + of swimming would make the differ- ence between life and death, either for himself or for a friend he may rescue. Personally, I think every one should know how to swim, especially a man. “The value of swimming to keep in &0od health is generally recognized. “I am enthusiastic over the Y. M. C. A. men’s ‘learn-to-swim’ cam- paign, and hope many will avail them- selves of the opportunity it affords— to learn how to swim under competent | instructors. “I think it would be nice if some organization would conduct a ‘learn- to-swim’' campaign for women, be- cause women as well as men enjoy swimming, one of the most popular of Summer sports.” All men wishing to take the free course in swim lessons must sign up by Wednesday morning in order to | do 50, “Y" officials point out.
