BY VICTOR Assoctated Press Fin: NEW YORK. April 23.—A late sell- | ing wave hit the stock market today fractior | to 5 or more points before sufficient support arrived to brace the list, Brokers saw nothing especially out- standing in the news to bring a be- lated flood of offerings that put the ticker tape two minutes or so behi; floor dealings for a time. Numero new lows for the year or longer wert posted. Partly responsible for the renewal of the slide, it was thought, was the marked indifference of stocks to ex- ceptionally bright corporation earn- ings statements and other favorable industrial news, The pace was extremely slow until near the final hour, when bids van- ished in many instances and traders previously on the sidelines dumped commitments. “Bargain” buying be= | fore the close brought mild recoveries. Transfers were around 1,200,000 shares. | Among depressing factors was another fall in United States Gover ment securities and a lower drift of | company bonds. Major commod also dipped. Wheat at Chicago was off 'y to 27, cents a bushel and corn was down 2% to 74 up. Trade observers noted the warning of Kenneth Colli vice president of Gimbel Bros., the advance in prices of ing 1 real and sharp.” Rails put on a forward push in the | morning when official figures on last week’s freight loadings revealed a more | than seasonal gain.
