Fractional improvement was regis- tered by Alleghany Stamped 5s of 1950, Chesapeake Corp. 5s, Consolidated Edison 3Ys, International Telephone 5s, Missouri-Kansas-Texas 5s, Sheli Union Oil 3!5s and Union Pacific 31¢s. Edging a trifle lower on small turn- over were American Telephone 31;s, North Western 4%s, Illinois Central 43,s, International Paper 5s, Southern Pacific 4!,s and Walworth 4s. ‘The foreign list was steady and quiet with moderate gains in Cuban Public Works 5'.s and Polish 8s contrasting with slight declines in Argentine 6s and German 5'5s. The United States Government group was mixed. Somewhat higher were Treasury 215, the 234s of 1947 and the 3%s of 1956. By the Associated Press NEW YORK, April 16.—Pennsyl- vania' Co., an investment company controlled by Pennsylvania Railroad Co., reported 1936 net income of $6,- 415,702 after taxes and charges, but before $500,000 appropriated for sink=- ing fund and exclusive of $249,286 net profit on sale of securities which was credited to profit and loss account. ‘This compared with net income in 1935 of $4,791,952, excluding $334,069 profit on sale of securities. United States Gypsum Co. and sub- sidiaries, with properties throughout the country, reported, for quarter end- ed March 31 net profit of $1,411,622, equal after preferred dividend require- ments to $1.06 a common share, against $436,617, or 25 cents a common share, in March quarter last year.
