Washington's lack of housing facili- #ies, especially for poor families, was stressed by Miss M. Alice Hill, direc- tor of the public assistance division of the Department of Public Welfare, in an address Monday before a funcheon meeting of the Washington Council of Social Agencies at the Y. W. C. A. 3uilding. | “When visitors come to \b‘«'uhmg-K ton,” said Miss Hill, “they are always | taken on sightseeing tours to see our, beautiful public buildings, memorials, | ert gallerles and museums. If a member of the staff of the public assistance division were to conduct them on a tour of the parts of the city in which our poor live there would be & very different story to tell. Such visitors would probably return home with such stories for their Con- gressmen that something might, per- haps, be done to improve other parts of the city. “Washington's problem of the scarcity of houses and apartments is doubled and tripled for those who must live on relief. Landlords do not want to rent to relief clients. They know too well how insecure and in- adequate their allowances are.” Referring to the rooming house situation, Miss Hill stressed “how adly we need licensing of rooming houses, inspection of rooming houses and more stringent follow-up for in- fectious disease in rooming houses.” WILL OF MRS. HARMAN DISPOSES OF $220,000 Four Children Are Principal Bene- ficiaries—Trust Fund Left to Granddaughters. Disposing of an estate valued at approximately $220,000, the will of Mrs Eugenia Edwards Harman, widow of Frank P. Her four children were the princi- pal beneficiaries under the will. They are Mrs. Mary Floyd Snider, Mrs. Harriet H. Early, Frank P. Harman, gr., and Everette McDowell Harman. The Washington Loan & Trust Co. was named executor and trustee of oy cndnSas h8nd Vocational Guidance A Capella Choir The Singing Lady & $40,000 trust fund for the benefit of Mrs. Harman's two granddaugh- ters, Arline Engart Harman and Eu- genia S. Harman Whiting. The re- mainder of the estate was left in equal parts to her four children. It cenaisted principally of seourities. ) Piano Capers Johnson Family Chateau Laurier Orch.
