Economist Fears Sharp Advance in | Commodity Prices 85 the Associated Press. CHICAGO, January 6.—Discuss- ing the future of commodity prices, Benjamin M. Anderson, jr., economist of the Chase National Bank of New York, said today, “there are very ominous possibilities in the situation.” It is likely a great rise in com- modities will come “sooner or later,” he said at a luncheon of the Chicago Association of Commerce. As a means of controlling future growth of debt he advocated a further increase in reserve requirements by Federal Reserve authorities “to the full extent allowed by the law.” Re-establishment of sound financial traditions, redistribution of the world’s gold and clearing of world trade channels were among steps urged as aids to monetary stability. NEW MARSHALL FIELD SHARES ARE APPROVED NEW YORK, January 6.—The New York Stock Exchange announced ap- proval of the application of Marshall Field & Co., Chicago department store owners, to list 1335395 additional shares of common stock in connec- tion with a plan of recapitalization recently approved by stockholders. ‘The application disclosed that James ©. McKinsey, granted options to purchase up to 100,000 shares of the company's com- mon stock under specified conditions. One clause permits him to purchase up to 50,000 shares at $10 each at any time between October 1, 1936, and Decémber 31, 1938, with alternative provisions. Another allows the purchase of an additional 50,000 shares, there- after and before December 31, 1940, at the book value as of December 31, | 1937.
