New Year’s Eve Celebration Snappier and Thaa £ IV 500 By the Way— Beth Blaine LANS are well under way for the dance which Audrey Campbell is giving at the Sulgrave Club Saturday night, January 9. We heard from Lucius ‘Wilmerding that his sister Helen and Philip Bastedo are coming down to stop chez Wilmerding for the party. The engagement of Helen Wilmerding and Philip Bastedo was announced last week in New York and their wedding is to take place in February. Jimmy Mitchell tells us that Mr. and Mrs. Albert Francke, jr., also are coming down from New York for that week end. Mrs. Francke before her marriage was Eleanor Fitz Gerald and each year she and her husband make a visit here, last Winter they stopped with Mrs. Leiter, but this trip they will be with the James F. Mitchells. * gk % IN SOME respects January 20 is a day which is not to be looked forward to—that is, if you are the kind of person who dislikes crowds. Just in case the date has slipped your mind, it is Inauguration day! Already the stands are going up on Pennsylvania avenue by leaps and bounds, and resere vations are being made at every hotel in the city. To our way of thinking, the best part of the day will be the dance at the 1925 F Street Club. The secretary of the dances, of which this is the third and last, Pete de Sibour, is nearly crazed, as the quota is 200 and the members are very lax about notifying him whether or not they will be on hand. This causes endless trouble, as it is impossible to know how many reservations can be made for out-of-town guests. This is a warning to those who have joined these club dances to communicate with Vct. de Sibour right away. * ¥ % % COL. AND MRS. JOHN GREELY'S gay and hospitable house on Courtland place was the scene of a farewell party for Baroness Mabel von Nagel, who departs soon for Europe, leaving her attractive auburn-haired daughter Vica in New York to study chemistry at Columbia University. The Baroness and her eldest daughter, Alix von Nagel, visited in Wash- ington two years ago, when Alix, who is tall and blond and resembles Greta Garbo, caused a sensation at the famous “black and white” ball given by the Netherlands Minister and his wife, Mme. van Haersma de With. In a silver lacquered coiffeur and silver fingernails, Alix gave Washington and the bache- lor diplomats in particular something to think about! Since her mother arrived in America two months ago, Aliz has become engaged to a young man her mother has never met, though she knows his family well. So, within siz weeks there will be a “reunion in Munich,” the former home of the Von Nagels, when Aliz will marry Count Hubert Deym Stritez of Czechoslovakia, whose ertensive estates are in Silesia. The bride’s father, the late Baron Charles von Nagel zus Aichberg was chamberlain to the late King of Bavaria, holding also the rank of major general in the Bavarian Army. Baroness von Nagel is an American, formerly Miss Nismith of New York. The young count’s grandfather was Ambassador to the Court of St. James under Queen Victoria and the late Edward VII and is the head of his branch of the family. He is the son of the late Count Franz Deymand and the Countess de Harnoncourt.
