NEW YORK, October 26.—Shares slumped sharply in the curb market as the session wore on today. Following morning losses of fractions to 1 or more points, declines were deepened in late trading. Off about 2 to around 5 points were Aluminum Co. of America, Great Atlantic & Pacific, Aluminum, Ltd., Pittsburgh Plate Glass, Gulf Oil and Youngstown Steel Door. NEW YORK, October 26.—Directors of the Mengel Co. have approved a plan for refinancing and recapitaliza- tion which shortly will be submitted to stockholders, W. L. Hoge, president announced todsy. The plan contemplates retirement of the outstanding approximately $2,- 188,000 of 7 per cent bonds through the sale of a new convertible issue carrying a substantially lower coupon rate. At the same time, holders of the 7 per cent preferred stock will be offered in exchange, on & par for par basis, the new 5 per cent convertible pre- ferred, together with three shares of common stock in satisfaction of divi- dend arrears. The plan further pro- vides for the elimination of present restrictions against dividends both as to preferred and common stocks. G. Dahlberg, president of Celotex Corp., in a letter to stockholders today in- dicated termination on November 16 of the period of acceptance of an exchange plan submitted to securities holders. The exchange plan is a part of the financial program resulting from the recent reorganization and is designed to revise the present debt structure. The company manufactures build- ing insulating materials at plants at Marrero and New Iberia, La., and has headquarters at Chicago. SOUTHERN INDIANA GAS WILL CALL PREFERRED BY the Associated Press, NEW YORK, October 26.—Southern Indiana Gas & Electric Co., a subsid- jary of Commonwealth & Southern Corp., is notifying preferred stock- holders it will call for redemption its outstanding preferred shares Jan- uary 1. NEW YORK, October 26.—Skelly Oil Co. and subsidiaries, with proe ducing properties in Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, New Mexico and Arkansas, reported for the September quarter net income of $1,307,595, equal after divie dend requirements on 6 per cent pre« ferred on wnich there are accumulated unpaid dividends, to $1.30 a common share. This compared with $798,944, or 69 cents a common share in the September quarter of 1935. Royal Typewriter, Royal Typewriter Co. Inc., and do-. mestic subsidiaries, Hartford, Conn., reported for the September quarter net profit of $671,757, equal after dividend requirements on 7 per cent preferred, in arrears, to $2.25 a common share with no provision made for Federal surtaxes on undistributed profits. This compared with $616,082, or $2.05 in the preceding quarter and $389,870, or $1.20 on the common in the September quarter, 1935. Wesson Oil & Snowdrift. Wesson Oil & Snowdrift Co.
