LOVER WILL AID ALLEGED SLAYER Young Man Declared Lured by “Hoax” Letters of Woman. By the Associated Press. KENOSHA, Wis, October 12—To the charge that 21-year-old Ruth Moran killed a lover twice her age to hide their relations from a younger sweetheart, District Attorney John P. | McEvoy added the accusation today | that she lured the preferred lover with | *hoax” letters representing herself as | ®ble to aid him financially. McEvoy said Mrs. Moran confessed ehe shot Herbert Winter in the back last Thursday in a wooded section near here when he threatened to expose her trysts with him to Leo Lindstrom, 24. McEvoy said she augmented the confession with an admission that two letters which she told Lindstrom were from her stepfather in Califor- nia—holding forth a hope of an in- terest in a night club and an ad- vance of $150 transportation money— actually were written to herself. But Lindstrom said he would “stand by” her despite this disclosure. “I wrot: to please Lec,” McEvoy quoted her. “I loved him so much I wanted to show him I had some- thing to offer him.” Mrs. Moran, estranged from the Milwaukee husband who was the father of her 2-year-old son, was held in jail pending arraignment tomor- row. Lindstrom, whom McEvoy said | had no connection with the slaying, was detained as a material witness, McEvoy said Lindstrom and Mrs. Moran agreed the young man probably was the father of a child she expected to be born in six months, VING STAR, WASHINGTON, D. They told me that Lee took the chain collar and walked right up to Trilby and slapped it around her neck. Now, Trilby is one of our best ele- phants. But she was tired. All circus elephants hate that chain col- 1ar, because it _means work and re- minds them of captivity. There was a gurgling snuffie and a slap. Asleep, Trilby lashed out with her trunk. Val and Joe ran into the car, I don't think 20 seconds could have elapsed. There was Trilby, standing over Lee, blinking and slob- bering over him. Don't call me a liar. I know ele- phants. That's my business. Trilby was crying. She sprayed saliva on his still body. She fondled him with her trunk. She loved that boy because he gave her food and water and he wasn't the type to ride the elephants. She was mwling and trying to get him up. You smart guys may think this is just a newspaper story, but it isn't. If ever I saw an elephant cry, it was Trilby. When I entered the car I knew that Lee was dead. We took Trilby out, together with 15 other elephants in the car. Three hours later she was ready for the ring like a true show gal. Trilby couldn't tell me she was sorry but that's the truth. No Disciplining Due. ‘There is not going to be any disci- pline for her. It was really Lee's fault. You ask Ericka Loyal, a pretty brunette girl, who rides on Trilby's hiead every night and takes the star role in the center ring. Trilby wouldn't hurt a flea. I saw her standing over him, legs spread. rocking back and forth, a sure sign of elephant emotion. She would never step on him. Trilby would gladly kill & fly, as they annoy more than the prods of the hook, goofy as that may sound. But she has been with humans so long that she likes us. That's not true of the cats, but it is true of the elephants. Ill be glad to go into a box car with Trilby, tell her to move over and make my bed in her stall for the night.
