Harold H. Levi, sr., 48, vice president and general manager of the Hecht Co., died yesterday at his home, 3610 Macomb street. Death was due to & heart attack. He had been ailing for some time, but had remained active. Mr. Levi, affiliated with the Hecht Co. since 1905, long had been prom- inent in trade bodies and business and fraternal organizations. He served in the development of the store from a comparatively small business to a huge enterprise. As the first president of the Wash- ington Advertising Club, he fqunded the Vigilance Committee, which later became the Better Business Bureau. Since the bureau's inception, he had held & position on its board. Interested in social welfare and charity, Mr. Levi was a prominent figure in Community Chest cam- paigns. Many and Varied Activities. His organization Wctivities were many and varied. A thirty-second degree Mason, he was a member cf Harmony Lodge and of Almas Temple of the Mystic Shrine. He also be- | longed to the Woodmont Country Club, the Washington Board of Trade, the Elks, the Town and Country Club, the Royal Arcanum and the Phoenix and Suburban Clubs of Baltimore. He was a member of the board of the ‘Washington Hebrew Congregation. A few years after beginning work for the Hecht Co. he was made store manager. As an official of the com- | pany he played an important role in the development of six stores in Balti- more and New York as well as the one here. He was the guiding hand in the building of the company's new Washington store. Mr. Levi was a nepnew of Alex- {ander Hecht and Moses S. Hecht, president and chairman, respectively, | of the concern’s board. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Viola Levi: four sons, Harold H., jr.; Malcolm, Stuart and Donald Levi, and his mother, Mrs. Matilda Rafl, the latter of Baltimore. Last Rites Tomorrow.
