Banks throughout the country that are purchasing home mortgages in- sured by the Federal Hous.ng Admin- istration are promoting the interests of depositors, the communities from which loanable funds are drawn, and the interests of shareholders, accord- ing to J. Howard Ardrey, assistant to the administrator and long identified with the banking profession. in the current issue of the Insured Mortgage Portfolio. In seeking out new sources of rev- enue, Ardrey said, banks must still give first consideration to the funda- mentals of security and liquidity, or availability in relation to yield. In his opinion, they have discovered these elements in the home mortgages in- sured by the Federal Housing Admin- istration. The Federal Housing Administra- tion's impartial appraisal for insur- ance of properties which are covered by mortgages already in the bank's| portfolio enables the bank to make a | more accurate determination of the | value of its present mortgage assets, “Standardized Security.” 2. The refunding, under the in- sured mortgage system, of the bank's present mortgages, takes them from under the moratoria laws in force in various States and makes them cur- rent obligations, subject to ready sale as insured mortgages, also to periodic repayment of principal. 3.
