« Kane, Alexandria, re-elected as treas- | CONTINUED GAINS INREAL ESTATE PREDICTED HERE , Election Slows Up Market Slightly, but Effect Is B+ Seen Temporary. VOLUME RISES STEADILY g DURING TWO YEARS Builders Erecting Dwellings at Rapid Pace, Indicating Con- b fidence in Future. E BY JAMES Y. NEWTON. The coming election has had the effect of slowing up slightly the Washington real estate market in the last few weeks, although there is some division of opinion on the subject among the city's larger brok- ers. Realty experts are confident, however, that regardless of the out- come of November balloting business will continue to be exceedingly brisk here. Washington's realty market has been climbing steadily the last (wo Yyears toward the volume of pre-depres- sion days. This march has been un- marked by even temporary halts. ‘This fact leads some of the brokers to view a pre-election slump as assur- ance of the future health of the mar- ket. The best sign for continued good business in the Capital is the fact that from a buyer’s standpoint it is the time to purchase property as prices have not risen in proportion to business transacted, and is still 8 long way from the average level | of the 1920s. An indication of the confidence of people who know real estate in Wash- ington is the fact that the builders are erecting dwellings at a fast pace. It is probable that construction this month will exceed the total for Oc- tober, 1935, which was one of the | best months in a year that saw the | erection of nearly 2,000 homes in the | District alone. Despite the great | number of dwelling units added this vear and last. apartment houses are | still crowded, the last report showing | JJdess than 2 per cent residential va- cancies. Middleton Sees Increases. F. Eliot Middleton, president of the Washington Real Estate Board, who | is considered an astute judge of con- ditions, declares that real estate is still far from its peak. He believes | the next year will bring even greater activity than the last, and that the election will have little, if any, effect on it. They want color, yes, but they don’t trust their own judg- ment in the use of it.” Last week we announced the opening of a new home featuring the tasteful use of color. Almost instantly the idea caught the public interest. Visi- tors came out enthusiastically. After they had seen the soft gray and blue, the restful green and silver, the gay red and yellow, harmoniously combined, they recognized color as a distinctly modern and delightful way to give a home taste and individuality.
