GOLD-SILVER BASE URGED FOR MONEY ‘ Western Mining Convention Favors U. S. Purchases of Metals. Bv the Associated Press. DENVER, October 2.—A United States currency system including both gold and silver, with a “metallic base” as opposed to a “managed cur- rency,” was the specified goal of the West's metal mining operators today. The idea was incorporated into a “declaration of policy” adopted last night by the Western Metal Minlif; Convention of the American Mining Congress at the close of its sessions here. The plank also included a request for continuation of Federal purchases of newly-mined domestic gold and silver. Bimetallic Base Urged. The plank read: “We favor the return of the con- trol of our monetary system to the Congress. We favor a currency sys- tem with a metallic base as opposed | to a so-called managed currency. We | favor the use of both historic metals— | THE EVENING STAR, WASHINGTON, D. C., Child Restored to Mother AIMEE JEALOUS, MOTHER ASSERTS Says Church Row Is Due to Feeling for Daugh- Jer’s Suitor. Py the Associated Press. LOS ANGELES, October 2.—The sensational kidnaping episode of Aimee Semple McPherson 10 years ago was brought up in a bristling statement confronting the evangelist today, hurled at her by her mother in a renewal of the family row at Angelus ‘Temple. Charging that Mrs. McPherson’s jealousy of her daughter'’s suitor started the present trouble, the evan- gelist’s mother, Mrs. Minnie (Ma) Kennedy, said: “I am prepared to throw the whole force of my resources and my very retentive memory on the side of my granddaughter in this matter, and am prepared, if necessary, to take court action to protect Roberta against mismanagement of her affairs.” She spoke of the epispde 10 years ago when Mrs. McPherson disap- peared for several weeks, later telling authorities she had been abducted and held captive in Mexico. “Almee begged at that time for mercy because of her children,” de- clared Mrs. Kennedy. “She garnered in countless thousands of dollars by picturing to her congregation pitiful acenes of little Roberta hiding in the cellar in shame because of newspaper headlines about her mother. “Now that same mother all but repudiates her own child, and largely because she is jealous of the man by whom Roberta is being courted— Jacob Mojdel,” said Mrs. Kennedy. The point at issue is the delega- tion of power at the Four Square Gospel Church. SRR B S Traffic Charge Pondered. Great Britain thinks of putting into effect a charge that will permit police to make arrests for “conduct while in charge of a car calculated to involve danger to the driver or other road users.” FRIDAY, OCTOBER 2, 1936. Twin Sister Gets Job. OMAHA, Nebr. (#).—Callers at Roy Harrison’s office took a look at his secretary and decided she must have changed her mind about getting mar- ried and quitting her jog.
