"~ B2 HONOR STUDENTS CITY NEWS IN BRIEF. TODAY. Metunl, Private Duty Section, Nurses' Association, Red Cross Bufldlnx, Seventeenth and E GET G U AWARDS == 2 Dr. 0’Leary Says Moral and Spiritual Attributes Must Guide Mentality. Awards to honor students of last gear were made at Georgetown Uni- versity yesterday by Rev. John E. Grattan, §. J., dean of the Colleze of Arts and Sciences, at & convoca- tion opening the new college term for approximately 650 students. The address was made by Rev. Dr. Arthur A, O'Leary, S. J., president of the university, who warned the students that intellectual training without proper moral and spiritual | guidance can become ‘“one of the greatest dangers to our country.” Encourages Outside Activity. Dr. O'Leary pointed to world dis- sention today as one of the resuits of a lack of “honesty” in leadership and encouraged the students to take part In extracurricular activities to round out in a practical way the| training they receive in school to| become leaders in public and private life. “yYou are being trained, but you are also obliged to co-operate” he said. “Education is not mere in-| gtruction. Education is a laboratory in which you are the dissector. You do that of your own initiative. You are not there merely as passive hear- ers; you are not merely an object of experimentation. You are the one who does the experimenting.” Prize Awards Made.
