Edwards, 64, in- structor emeritus in the Howard Uni- versity College of Dentistry, died yes- terday after a long iliness at his nome, 1205 Linden street northeast. Besides teach- ing at the univer- sity, Dr. Edwards carried on an ac- tive dental prac- tice until some three years ago. He retired as in- structor in June, 1934. He was one of the most wide- ly known colored dentists in Wash- ington. A native of this city, he was grad- uated from the Normal Department of Howard University in 1889. He re- ceived the degree of doctor of dental surgery in 1907 and became instructor four years later. Dr. Edwards was a charter member of the National Dental Association and a member of the Robert T. Free- man Dental Society, serving €or two years as its president. He also be- | longed to the Oldest Inhabitarts As- ociation, a colored organization, and the National Association for the Ad- vancement of Colored People. He had given to many charitable organizations and enterprises, including funds to for free patients at Children’s and Garfield Hospitals and contributions to the Y. M. C. A. and the Y. W. C. A. ALLNUTT DIES AT CEDAR GROVE Montgomery Widow Survived by Son, Daughter and Two Brothers. Special Dispatch to The Star. CEDAR GROVE, Md., September 29.—Mrs. Clara E. Allnutt, 63, widow of Henry C. Allnutt, died Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Clara E. Mullican ’ere, following a long illness. Besides Mrs. Mullican, she is sur- vived by a son, Cecil B. Allnutt of Cedar Grove, and two brothers, Clin= ton and Erpest Bowman, both of Gaithersburg. She was a daughter of the late Chester Bowman of the Etchison neighborhood and was a life-long resident of Montgomery County. The fugeral took place this morn- ing from Salem M. E. STAR, WASHINGTON, D. C, W. B. LOEWENBERG, MANUFACTURER, DIES Native of Germany Made Fortune in Diamond Mines, Then Came to U. S. William Bennett Loewenberg, 83, who as a young man amassed a for- tune in the South African diamond mines and later used the funds to establish a basket maunufacturing business, died Sunday 'in a local sani- tarium after a long illness. Private funeral services were held today. Mr. Loewenberg, a native of Ger- many, came to this country many years ago. After living in Michigan | for several years, he went to South Africa. Returning after a few years, he conducted the basket manufactur- ing business in Wabash, Ind., until retiring about 10 years ago and com- ing to Washington. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Clara Van Baalan Loewenberg; a daughter, Mrs. Rhea L. Bernton, 2013 O street, the wife of Dr. Harry S. Bernton, and a son, 1. E. Loewenberg of New York City. He also leaves four grandchildren. TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, 1936. P. J. CAULFIELD DIES WHILE ON VOYAGE Retired War Department Employe and Wife Were on Way to South America. Patrick J. Caulfield, 66, former clerk in charge of the mail and records section, office of the chief of Engineers, War Department, died Sunday on board ship en route from South America. Mr. Caulfield, who lived at 3762 Benton street, left here a short while ago with Mrs. Caulfield for a South American cruise. Word of his death was sent here by Mrs. Caulfield to her niece, Mrs. Raymond P. Casey, of the Benton street address. The ship is scheduled to arrive in New York to- morrow. A veteran of the Spanish-American ‘War, Mr. Caulfield had been a civilian employe of the Government about 29 years when he retired in 1930. He was a member of the Elks and Knights of Columbus. Besides his wife he leaves a brother, James Caulfield, of Elizabeth, N. J.
