Ey tne Ascociated Press. MEXICO, D. F. September 8—A banking set-up closely paralleling the United States Federal Reserve System has emerged from the latest shaking- up President Lazaro Cardenas gave | Mexico’s monetary system. While the spending public was chiefly interested in the President's putting back into circulation the big, 12-gram silver pesos withdrawn in 1935, bankers found more important | the increased powers he gave the Bank | of Mexico. Secretary of the Treasury Eduardo | Suarez gave this explanation of the | Bank of Mexico's new status: “It will be an institution on & plane of absolute autonomy, which will al- | low it to exercise with ease its func- tions as a central bank, consisting of | the regulation of the emission and cir- | culation of money, foreign exchange and the money market, and of sup- | port for associated banks. That, observers noted, virtually duplicated the purposes of the Fed- | eral Reserve in the north—the more so that the new decrees authorized the central bank to discount paper of other banks. A distinct innovation, however, was the setting up, effective January 1. of an entirely autonomous “fiscal trib- unal” to rule on all questions coming up between the state and private in- dividuals. |NEW YORK BANK STOCKS | _ NEw YORK._septemver % New York Security Dealers’ Associa o (Quotations as of 2 o'clock.)
