WOMAN SLAYER T0 DIE THURSDAY Mrs. Creighton, Paralyzed, Hopes for Last-Minute " Intervention. By the Associated Press. OBSSINING, N. Y., July 11.—Liter- ally paralyzed and almost speechless from fear, Mrs. Mary Frances Creigh- ton, 36, mother of two, tossed un a cot in Sing Sing's sweitering death house tonight as prison officials made arrangements to carry her bodily to the electric chair Thursday night. Mrs. Creighton was sentenced to die with Everett Applegate for the poison egg-nog murder of Applegate’s pon- derous wife, Ada, last October. Attendants disclosed that physi- elans had satisfied themselves, by thrusting pins into Mrs. Creighton's legs, that she was not shamming. The pin pricks brought no reaction what- ever, they said. Asked how she felt, Mrs. Creighton Moaned, “very miserable.” In another cell, Mrs. Dorothy Sher- wood, 28, rejoiced at news that the Court of Appeals had granted her a new trial on a charge of drowning her 2-year-old son, Jackie. She will be removed from the death house soon. As the hour for Mrs. Creighton's ex- ecution neared, her only remaining hope of reprieve lay with Gov. Herbert Lehman. Some prison attendants thought & last-minute physical exam- ination might be made in efforts to gain a commutation of her sentence to life imprisonment. Attorneys for both Mrs. Creighton and Applegate appealed the death sen- | tences, but the Court of Appeals ruled | also ruled out.
