ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 6.—Funeral services for Mrs. Ida Wolfe, 65, widow of Julius Wolfe. former Alexandria merchant, who died Friday at her home, 514 Prince street, were con- ducted by Rabbi Metz of Washington at the Wheatley funeral home here this morning. SULLIVAN DIES Was Prominent Political Figure in New Orleans. NEW ORLEANS, July 6 (#).—Col. John P. Sullivan, 61, prominent politi- cal figure in New Orleans for many years, died last night following & sun- stroke suffered while fishing a week ago. He supported the late Senator Huey P. Long in 1928 when Long was elected Governor, but subsequently broke with him. During Long's feud with Presi- dent Roosevelt, Sullivan was one of the Federal patronage dispensers in the State. Col. Sullivan, s veteran of the Spanish-American War, was attorney for Col. E. R. Bradley, prominent racing figure. (edar Hill %m,mww MRS. LA, JOHNSON RITES HELD TODAY Arlington Burial Given Wife of Army Officer and Red Cross Worker. Funeral services for Mrs. John A. Johnston, 59, director of roll call and publicity of the American Red Cross and wife of Gen. Johnston, U. 8. A, were held today at her home, 2101 Connecticut avenue, with burial fol- lowing in Arlington National Ceme- tery. She died Friday after a pro- longed illness. Dr. W. L. Darby, secretary of the Federation of Churches and her as- sociate in Red Cross work for many years, officiated at the rites. Began in World War. Mrs. Johnston began her work with the Red Cross as a volunteer during the World War and has continued in that capacity since. Her war duty was largely with the canteen corps. She made numerous trips on hospital trains operating between New York and Washington, She continued service with the Red Cross after signing of the armistice, and in 1922 was made secretary of the District Chapter in charge of local activities. She was given the posi- tion she held at the time of her death in 1929. In this capacity she carried on & contihuous membership cam- paign, with an intensive two-week drive during the Fall. This work, done almost entirely by volunteers, cut to & minimum the cost of work. So suc- cessful was this work under Mrs. Johnston’s direction that for four consecutive - years the D. C. Chapter had the distinction of having the high- est percentage of adult memberships, in proportion to population, of any chapter in the country. She also was relief chairman for the Army-Navy Mentorial Aid. Married 4 Years Ago. Gen. and Mrs, Johnston were mar- ried four years ago. married previously. He was District. D., one of the outstanding ministers in the Virginia Methodist Episcopal Conference and for years leader in religious and humanitarian work, died in a hospi- tal here yesterday. He was 73 Only once during his 50 years’ mem- bership did Dr. Bosman accept an assignment outside the Tidewater district, when he served for four years as pastor /of the Methodist Church in Culpeper.
