Sought to Effect Peace. Sir Willlam led the British forces in the battle of Bunker Hill, and de- feated Gen. George Washington at the battle of White Plains. Toward the end of the war, the two brothers were commissioned to effect peace negotiations between England and the colonies. Their efforts proved fruit- less, however. Mrs. Snyder came here with her parents in about 1863, the small fam- ily settling in Philadelphia. It was while she was attending boarding | school in New England that she met | her husband, then a young law stu- dent at the University of Pennsyl- | vania.
