October 25.—A mass meeting of Arlington County Re- publicans for election of delegates to the forthcoming Eighth Congressional District Convention will be held Tues- 1t ONE-DAY Event/ day at 8 pm. at Republican head- quarters hére, it was announced today by Grayson Ahalt, chairman of the Arlington County Republican Club. The county will be represented at the convention in Culpeper on Novem- ber 23 by 28 delegates and as many alternates, all between the ages of 18 and 36. They will participate in es- tablishing & young Republican or- ganization. Officers of the county organization will also be chosen, according to Ahalt, and 56 non-voting delegates and al- ternates above the age of 36 will be elected as a part of the convention delegation. ROCKVILLE, Md., October 25.—Leo Leonard Trout of Bethesda has filed sult in the Circuit Court here for an absolute divorce from Agnes Margaret Trout of Franklin Park, Va. charging he was deserted more tnan three years ago. The petition states that the couple , B-l1 were married August 8, 1025, and have four children. In a petition filed here by Franklin E. Koehl of Takoma Park, Md., against Frances Attawa Koehl, an absolute divorce is also sought. The plaintiff asks to be awarded custody of the couple’s two children. The marriage took place May 16, 1931, the petition states. —_— Canals of Venice. By the Assoclated Press Unearthing relics from old battle grounds and the sites of early settle- ments, the Civilian Conservation Corps is penetrating secrets of America’s past which had remained hidden for years beneath the soil. V. E. Chatelain, historian of the National Park Service, said yesterday that hitherto unknown facts have been revealed by C. C. C. extavations at Jamestown, Va., first English settle- ment in the United States, and that much valuable historical information has been gleaned from battlefields. | . “Itis amazing—the things that have been discovered,” he said of the work at Jamestown. “By careful excavation, C. C. C. workers unearthed old founda- tions, measure them and from them may learn much of the early buildings. Dutch Brick Recovered. “These house foundations tell an eloguent story of those ancient days In addition, small Dutch brick im- ported by the early settlers, chinaware pottery, iron footwarmers, and a large collection of bottles and utensils have been uncovered.” On the battlefield at Yorktown, Va., | old trench lines have been recon- structed, battery positions have been | located and guns have been mounted on platforms and carriages carefully built along the lines of those used in Colonial days. The C. C. C. also has salvaged the | guns, anchors, chains and other equip- ment of two British frigates sunk in the York River in 1781 and these are | now on display at Yorktown. Historic Shrines Restored. In another phase of its work, offi- | cials said, the C. C. C. is restoring and preserving historic shrines. Public parks which encircle the points of in- terest have been laced with roads and paths, Chatelain said, erosion-scarred lands have been reclaimed, trees have been planted and a general program of landscaping is under way.
